Did you like Kate’s dress?

Britain+Royal+Wedding.JPG

Kate, the new Duchess of Cambridge, was more Grace Kelly than Princess Diana in the her spectacular Alexander McQueen wedding gown by designer Sarah Burton.

She married Prince William on Friday morning, April 29, in London. Read more about the wedding here.

Kate’s striking v-neck, scallop lace dress’s train measured 8.8 feet. It reminds many of the dress Kelly wore for her marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956.

Kelly’s gown, made by costumer Helen Rose and the wardrobe department of MGM, was “truly designed by Hollywood,” says Brides’ Martini Bratten.

Diana’s famed silk taffeta, ivory wedding dress had a 25-foot-long train and 10,000 tiny mother-of-pearl sequins and pearls. She wore it for her wedding on July 29, 1981.

I declare Kate’s dress awesome, but what do you think?

How could anyone with AN OUNCE of class in their blood not love her dress. It was traditional, simple, flattering, and just plain old PERFECT.

Someone explain why we care. Please??? Over 300 lives were lost this week in the United States due to bad weather and all we can think about is Kate’s wedding dress. That’s ‘beautiful’.

Why do people care about the Royal Family and what they do? They bleed the English taxpayer dry to the tune or 80% on tax rate, they live in luxury, are powerless while serving no useful purpose or function other than ceremonial nonsense. What do the British people see in these seemingly worthless people, who do them no good? In the overall scheme of things, they don’t matter. Why bother?

Finally the return of the elegant wedding gown as opposed to the strapless prom confections designers have been forcing on women for the last ten years.Love it.

I thought the whole wedding was gorgeous and appropriate for their ages/generation. Very sleek and modern, but traditional. I really admired the way the guests were dressed, as well, which I didn’t expect. Who doesn’t love a wedding? And now we have a Princess Catherine. Fun.

In these hard times, it is nice to, for just one day, escape from the daily prostetized news and have some pagentery. I thought the ceremoney was grand, the dress was lovely, Kate and William beaming, and the history viewed was things of legend. I think the story of Prince William is as compelling to the citizens of Great Briton as was the story of John Kennedy Jr. was to this country. Similar tragedies and hope for the future. Put aside your worries and enjoy the day. God save the Queen and protect the Prince and Princess..

In the midst of the hard times and tragedies going on in this world, it is nice to have have a happy occasion to help us all remember there is good in this world. It is the attitude of people like Tygo and Ethel that bring this world down. Yes we all are thinking about the hard times but we are also smiling at good times. It helps you to get through each day!

I knew everyone would start trashing the royal family. I am agaisnt a monarchy but most of England is for it and its none of our business. The dress was elegant. To not like this dress means you have no class. Just because there were deaths from storms does not mean we can never think about happy things. Some people just have miserable lives and like to complain.

I voted that it was just OK. I think the dress lacked the “wow” factor. I also wondered why her hair was not put up for a more classy look. All in all the wedding was exactly what Kate wanted and that is the main thing.

I thought it was great. The wedding had nothing to do with the US economy, the Pope, or tornadoes, and I suppose we should boycott Reds games because they might make someone happy. Besides, I didn’t have to pay for the dress. My best wishes to the young couple!

I liked her dress a lot. I too am in my 20s and don’t really think it made her look old. I think it made her look like a respectful woman. Too many women use their wedding dresses to show off their goodies that only their husband should see.

Read the headlines of the stories on the DDN.who would not find the royal wedding a better side of life? Just because miserable scums are the usual of Dayton, must we dwell on them?More power to the beautiful side of life.Ignore the downbeat unions and maybe they will turn into Prince Charmings also.

The dress was perfect ! Of course the world is going on around us- but we all still beleive in the fairy tale. Why not ?! My life sucks right now- so why not have a bright moment and live the story along with them? Diana would be so proud of Will.

Do you have any idea how much revenue the country and the people generated with the tourists and press due to the Royal Wedding? Can you imagine the flux of money if Dayton had something like it? People and businesses are helped by this. The English people and Brits in general WANT the Royal Family, it helps their country!!

The bride looked tired as if from lack of sleep. The dress was too ordinary, maybe she should have tried some shops that ordinary folks visit and the baldy she married looked ugly. Ah the perfect wedding!!!!!!!!!!

I was a little surprised by the Princess Grace/Sound of Music similarities at first, but every bride has her own style, and on the whole the concept worked. Especially with the classic cars. They all looked a little nervous though, didn’t they!

Her dress was understated and plain. Grace Kelly’s dress was amazing, and classic and I can’t believe people are comparing the two. Kate’s dress made me scrunch up my nose and wonder why out of ALL the amazing, beautiful possibilities she had at her fingertips, she would have chosen something so dowdy. It’s a tragedy.

@Beka — yes, I agree. After seeing Pippa’s dress, it seems like she could have gone with a more elaborate version of that, but maybe she was trying to cover up a little more properly? They are British, you know. I would have preferred a candle color rather than stark white, not quite the heavy cream Diana’s was. It would have been fun to go more 1930’s than 50’s.

Kate’s dress looked good, but Pippa’s dress was a stunner. Any lady that can wear a dress that form fitting and look as good as Pippa did - well she can do it in any color she wishes.

The British do want the Royals, they make millions of pounds for their country every year in tourisum. They are also millonires in their own right. And no the British do not pay taxes to them anymore and have not for many years. Our Royals are to us like your Hollywood is to you.

I thought Kate’s dress was elegant and she looked stunning. The wedding was beautiful and classy. Although the events of this past week have been tragic and our hearts certainly ache for those who have lost so much, I think it is important to also celebrate life and love! I don’t really care if the Brits have a monarchy or not. It’s their country. But I did see the dress and think it’s very elegant. Much prettier than the over the top mess Diana wore. I don’t really care about the Catholics making a guy who turned a blind eye to priests molesting children into a “saint”. I don’t believe in that crap either.

dress was sooo been there done that, but perfect for a commoner! with all the great gowns out there, she surely has NO sense of style. BUT she could have had the style forced on her, like every other part of the day, to meet proper etiquette for royals. Nothing about the ceremony was modern or youthful……clearly showed why churches in england are empty…if these two buy into that type of stodgy mess, God better bless em!

If you’re not into fashion/weddings, you sure clicked on the wrong blog. No one is saying that these are exemplary people because of status. I’m guessing that most of the naysayers spend a lot of time stabbing everyone else in the back, royal or not.
