Ohio named the nerdiest state, North Dakota the ugliest

When all is said and done it seems that Ohio has the most Steven Quincy Urkels. Time magazine calls Ohio the nerdiest state in its article “Why Your State Sucks: The Great American Map of Fail.”

The magazine uses statistics to point out the worst (or maybe it is the best) thing about each state.

Believe me, there are worse things than being the nerdiest state. Arizona has the highest alcoholism rate, Arkansas has the worst average credit score, Colorado has the highest cocaine use per capita, Illinois has the highest rate of robbery, Louisiana has the highest rate of gonorrhea, Mississippi has the most obese people, Washington has most bestiality and North Dakota had the ugliest residents.

See, being a nerd ain’t so bad.

Just in case you are wondering, the magazine has the lamest reason for ranking us the nerdiest. Ohio has highest number of library visits per capita based on information from www.statemaster.com.

Really “Time” magazine, Really?

What do you think?

Is there still a “Time” magazine? Years ago I watched as they wrote themselves into irrelevancy. When I hear people speak of them, I thought it was nostalgia.

Most library visits per capita? I would not have guessed. Call Ohioans what they wish, but that is a very positive finding. As for Time magazine, it does still exist — I sometimes subscribe (usually because some kid is selling magazine subscriptions for a school project . . and I don’t have interest in reading Seventeen or the Knitting Digest. Mags today are either very skimpy (Time) or thicker than ever, with most of it ads (any woman’s magazine).

Hm. I thought “nerdiest” was quite a compliment, given the competition. Which would you rather be…nerdiest or highest cocaine use? But then, I proudly consider myself a nerd.

The nerds shall inherit the earth. There are more “cool” people working for nerds than nerds working for “cool” people. Nerds start their own businesses (Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffett, etc.). Nerds rule!

This is the same kind of nerd persecution that my friends and I were victims of at Adams College. We beat all the other frats to earn our place at the head of the table of the Greek Council. Did nerd persecution stop there? NO!!! Nerds of the world unite. We have the brain power, and we have news for all the beautiful people. We are here to stay!

They will have to pry my pocket protector and my taped (black rim) eyeglasses from my cold dead hands.

Fabulous. Only suckers buy books — they’re free at the library. Great place to meet girls too.
