Local 10 year-old’s creation wins her a year’s supply of ice cream
Audrey Trick does more than scream for ice cream.
The 10-year-old from Butler Twp., Montgomery County, uses it to win contests.
Trick’s entry for John’s Apple Crispie Crunch Ice Cream won the Most Creative Entry award in Velvet Ice Cream’s 2010 Create-A-Flavor contest.
The fifth grader at St. Christopher School in Vandalia impressed the company with her submission on pink paper.
It included a photo, numerous ice cream stickers, and an essay on her proposed flavor, a mix of cinnamon ice cream layered with nuts and a ribbon of apple filling.
An a reward, Trick, the daughter of Julie and Jeff Trick, will receive a plaque and perhaps best of all, a year’s supply of Velvet Ice Cream.
Her ice cream may be produced this fall.
The concoction was inspired by John Chapman (Johnny Appleseed), who planted apple trees throughout the state.
“Audrey’s entry tied in the state’s historic past with the idea of promoting a healthy, Ohio grown fruit,” Velvet said in a press release.
Trick is an active 4-H Club member and raises pigs and chickens, and has a vegetable garden.
The overall winner of the 2010 Velvet Create-A-Flavor was 13-year-old Alex Grooms of Williamburg. He created “Honey Caramel Ice Cream.”
Velvet Ice Cream is headquarter at Ye Olde’ Mill in Utica, Ohio. More than 150,000 people visit its ice cream museum and restaurant each year.
