Average cost of tying the knot up 23 percent

There are signs couples are loosening the purse strings when it comes to wedding spending.

The average cost of a wedding rose by 23 percent in 2010, according to WE TV Network’s The Wedding Report.

It jumped from $19,581 last year to $24,066, the industry research company says.

About 50 areas saw an increase in spending. Wedding planning services out-performed all other categories.

Average wedding guests increased from 128 in 2009 to 141 in 2010.

Wedding spending still hasn’t completely returned to its platinum heydays.

The average cost of a wedding was nearly $29,000 in 2007, according to The Wedding Report.

It’s a waste. Put that kind of money to good use after you are married. It might come in handy.

Wow, that’s a lot of cash. I think part of the problem is that couples forget that the wedding is but a day, the marriage is for a life. Perhaps it might be best to spend a little of that on pre-marital counseling?
