Cooler making Derby comeback
Coolers will make a comeback at the Churchhill Downs infield.
For the first time since 2001, coolers will be allowed into the infield for the Kentucky Oaks Day and Kentucky Derby on May 1 and May 2.
But not so fast budget booze hounds.
Outside alcoholic beverages and glass containers will not be allowed.
All coolers will be subject to search and can’t be larger than 18” by18.”
Patron can bring in ice, non-alcoholic beverages in non-glass containers, and food packaged in clear plastic containers or bags.
Coolers were banned from the Derby following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Infield admission to Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks Day is $25, and $40 on Derby Day.

I’d love to go to Louisville And don a bright chapeau Wear a springtime sundress Sip juleps till I glow. But now the derby officials Will let coolers in again But not with carry-in alcohol Not profiting on drink is a sin. But you really think they’d notice If I only brought the bladder From a box of Franzia Cardbordeaux How could it really matter?
