Petition: bounce Chris Brown, Rihanna from Kid’s Choice Award list
UPDATE:
Chris Brown has asked to be pulled off the nominations lists for the Kid’s Choice Awards, the Associated Press reports.
Here is a statement said to be from the singer’s representative:
Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song,” his rep says in a statement.
Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated.”
While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so.”
It’s a double-double play for Chris Brown.
The singer is up for two felony charges and two Kid’s Choice Awards.
As a result, Nickelodeon and it’s parent company are getting barraged with e-mails and calls from folks ticked off that the accused girlfriend beater could win Blimps and get slimed (an honor) at the Kids’ Choice Awards Saturday, March 28.
Brown, who was charged with felony assault and making criminal threats last week, is up for favorite male singer and favorite song.
A Myspace page reportedly operated by Brown or his associates asks for votes.
Rihanna, who was allegedly attacked by Brown before last month’s Grammy Awards, is nominated for best song.
See article detailing the case here.
Rihanna is apparently standing by her teen heartthrob and thusly feeling heat right along with him.
There is an online petition asking that Nickeloden remove both from the nomination list.
The kid’s entertainment network for now is also sticking by Brown.
“Like all our KCA nominees, Chris Brown was nominated by kids several months ago based on his body of work as a performer, and the kids who vote will ultimately decide who wins in the category,” Dan Martinsen, Nickelodeon spokesman, told the Associated Press.
Kids can cast vote for Kid’s Choice Awards at http://www.nick.com/kca.
What do yo think? Will you allow your kids to vote for Brown? Should Nick give in to the pressure?

I wonder what it would take for Nickelodeon to pull a nominee from its lineup (apparently beating the crap out of your girlfriend isn’t that bad) or even what it would take for another celebrity to actually have the guts to denounce violence against women? This situation has made me realize that there are a lot of hip-hop artists and rappers parading around as grown men when they’re really just little boys.By tk

If the question were “Should we skip the trial and toss him in jail right now?”, I would say “innocent until proven guilty”. This isn’t a court of law, it’s a kid’s awards show. It’s good that kids have a say in something like their favorite pop album of the year, but not in whether a person that is currently charged with two felony counts should be celebrated as a good role model. We teach our kids, not the other way around.By Brandon

No…innocent or not Chris shouldnt be involved in this “kids choice award”. He should be a man about this and opt out gracefully. Oh yeah and Alice Chris isnt a hiphop artist or a rapper he’s a R&B singer. And I dont think the genre has anything to do with it…theres been plenty of reports about rockers and country music artist and their abusive relationships. Genre isnt the reason this happens.By F.

Nick should not allow Chris B. to be part of the show. How will you explain to your child why he is on the show?By Monica

She is definitely not a rold model for teen or any age girls. Obviously many people have issues like this; but her notoriety precedes her. She needs some counseling and she needs to take a walk from that relationship.By Allison

Nick kicked Brittney Spears kid sister off her show when the news found out she was pregnant… but they won’t kick him off the show? It doesn’t seem fair does it…?By Null

Chris and Rihanna should both step away. These kids looks up to them and I dont thinks its right for Chris to accept this award with these charges against him. Rihanna is not setting a good example for the young kids who look up to her either. She needs to just tell Chris to get lost. She can do alot better than him.By Alice

FYI: TMZ just reported that Brown has pulled out of the Kids Choice Awards. Brandon, when I was talking about little boys, I was referring not to just Chris Brown but mostly to all the artists that have released statements in support of him which includes, yes, rappers and hip-hop (and R&B) artists like Usher, T.I., Diddy, 50 Cent, NeYo and on and on and on. I’m not blaming it on the music. I’m criticizing a lot of artists who have more influence on young people in this country than any other genre out there. If Tim McGraw beat Faith Hill, I wouldn’t want to see him on the CMT awards either but this isn’t about a country star. On a separate note, I would LOVE to debate you on how often the label “R&B” is misused and has been redefined by a lot of young people that don’t know what they’re talking about. But that’s another time…
