Palin daughter says abstinence unrealistic

The creepy Octo Mom isn’t the only new mother making headlines.

In an interview Monday night with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren, new mommy Bristol Palin, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s daughter, said abstinence is “not realistic at all.”

The younger Palin said she loves being a mom, but it is not glamorous and is a lot of hard work.

Palin encourage others to learn from her experience and to wait to have children.

“I think everyone should just wait 10 years,” she said. “It’s so much easier if you’re married, have a house and career. It’s just so much easier.”

Palin was pregnant, unmarried and 17-year-old when her mother was announced as the Republican’s vice presidential pick and a pitbull with lipstick.

Palin, now 18, said the baby was unplanned and despite her hockey mother’s anti-abortion believes, it was her choice to have the baby.

“It doesn’t matter what my mom’s views are on it. It was my decision, ” she said.

She said she hopes to marry the baby’s daddy in the future, but is now focusing on school and caring for her son.

“I am not living for myself anymore, I am living for another human being,” she said.

What do you think? Is Bristol Palin correct. Is abstinence unrealistic?

Abstinence is not unrealistic in and of itself, just very difficult. Abstinence-only education, however, IS unrealistic in its blind belief that by telling kids not to have sex, they won’t have sex. And there’s no answer for “What if they do anyway?” The kids are ill-equipped, and the best thing any education system could hope to do is give them enough information to make smart decisions when the time comes. “Don’t do it” is good advice, but not enough information.

When I was in school, we had abstinence programs in health class. They showed us STD’s and a pregnacy video and for me, that was scary to the point that I did not want children or have sex! 10 years later, I am now a married mother of 2. I really feel that that they don’t teach no sex/safe sex anymore. It is realistic, but the peer pressure that these kids face is horrible. The parents don’t talk about it with their kids anymore, or they are too busy (like Sarah Palin). I talk to my daughter about this now, and she is 3. As she gets older, the conversation will change. These kids are doing things that I and many of my friends was afraid to do. You have to keep up with them.

Bristol is from a loving home and has a beautiful baby that she loves. The timing was wrong but the love, family and care is there for the baby, which is the most important thing of all.
