American Idol latest update: A shocking night!

Let’s get this out of the way first: American Idol group sings are awful on a good day, but they are even worse when the lip-synching is so far off. Stop it.

The producers give us a glimpse inside life in the Idol mansion: food fight between Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta.

Ryan starts the results and sends Matt Giraud to one side and Danny to the other. I bet Ryan will make the fifth person decide which group to go to.

Allison joins Danny, and soon after Kris Allen is sent to Matt’s side of the stage.

That leaves Adam Lambert, and, true to form, Ryan asks him to pick a side. Adam chooses to go with Allison and Danny.

Big problem, though: Adam is in the bottom three and is moved back to the group with Matt and Kris. Stunned looks from judges, contestants and members of the audience. Insert gasp now.

Danny and Allison are safe, taking the top two slots, and Simon reminds people that we should celebrate how good they were last night.

Natalie Cole takes the stage and does a nice job.

Taylor Hicks — Taylor who? — comes back to the Idol stage. The Season 5 winner still cannot dance and still has those goofy moves that many fans came to know and love. The voice is still the same, and I don’t mind his song “Seven Miles,” but I realize he will never be a commercial success.

The judges give Taylor a standing ovation … even Simon.

Ryan brings Matt, Kris and Adam back to the center of the stage so that he can send one of them to safety. Another shocker: Kris is safe, leaving Adam and Matt in the bottom two.

Did America get tired of Adam, or did his supporters just not vote because they thought he was safe? (And let me interject this question: Wouldn’t losing be the best thing for Adam’s career?)

This week’s mentor, Jamie Foxx, takes the stage next, keeping us all in suspense just a little longer. Adam really can’t lose to Matt, can he?

Decision time: Adam’s long night is finally over, and he is safe. His supporters can breathe a sigh of relief.

Matt is going home, which means this blog’s poll results were right again.

I think America got this one right. Do you?

(Next week’s theme is Rock ‘n’ Roll night with Slash as the mentor.)

I can’t believe that you idiots actually worry about you F* wins. The show is a joke and is worst now to watch then when it started. The show is nothing more than a popularity contest the best canidiates never make it to the final contest because they are already off the show. You are wasting your time watching Idol and no wonder why american are so stupid compared to the rest of the world because we watch stupid shows like this instead of education shows.

I was shocked to see adam in the bottom 3. not sure as to why as he is the only one that is cmfortable where is is and what he is doing. i think it should be allison danny and adam in the final 3. then i think in the end it will be between adam nd danny or adam and allison. it is very hard to say at this point. they are all very good. but i really think in the end it should be adam to win. danny and allision will go on to well. adam will to even if he doesn’t win, but he to me has worked the hardest to show that he wants this and doing all he can to win and he proves it each week with what he does. to me he is another david cook. he is comfrotable with the song and stage and i think he can even go on to do movies and do very well with it. He is a natural………

And I completely forgot but Kris Allen should have gone before Matt. The ONLY reason he is still there is because he has learned to play it up for the tweens. He has an average voice and you can hear the same if you walk into a hotel lounge. I think if Kris makes it any farther it will be a JOKE!

Matt was my favorite from the beginning but he didnt always shine on stage. If you download him on iTunes you’ll clearly be able to tell that Matt has the best voice. Adam has gotten to be popular just because of his over the top performances but let’s be honest - nobody wants to hear that on the radio. It’s the type of stuff you go to see on broadway. I really don’t think Adam has a great voice at all. He doensn’t have a real vibrato like Matt does. And I feel like Adam’s tone is always inconsistent. I noticed that when he attempts high notes, he can’t work his way up the octaves like Danny or Matt or Allison.. He jumps one or two octaves and uses a countertenor. And I think anytime Adam attempts to end songs in a falsetto he sounds horrible - ie. Mad World and this weeks performance. I’m just not impressed with Adam as a singer. People like Danny have shown a much heavier vocal weight throughout his notes and can belt out at any octave. Adam can’t belt out every note which is why he resorts to the very light foe falsetto.. I’m not real happy with how idol has been going.. But I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see Matt with success in a contemporary r&b, pop, alt. rock, kind of mix (ie. Coldplay, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Ryan Tedder, Isaac Slade. Matt has a very current sound and feel but brings his own to it.

I am so glad to see that others feel the same about Adam’s screeching!! He was one of my early favorites, but not anymore. We know he can do it, we don’t have to hear it on every single song he sings…

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that maybe putting Adam in the bottom two was purely for shock value on the part of the show? They do have the power to alter the results if they want to…they even say so in the end show credits. I just felt like it was fake the whole time I was watching it. I wouldn’t mind if Adam left, but it should be after Kris.

As talent goes, Adam should win. Yes, he’s gonna scream because that’s part of his tricks. Allison might sneak ahead when she quits being so humble. She got a great voice and style. She should do well during rock week. Danny might also sneak ahead because he has a voice but not as unique as Adam and Allison’s. I am perplexed as to why Kris is still with us. shudder

Freedom Writers Wife - don’t you think there is a time and a place for the screaming? Or do you think every single song warrants it - as long as you have the vocals to do it. There have been a couple of songs that Adam has done that I was actually enjoying, but then he had to throw that signature scream in and ruin it. We all know he can do it. He doesn’t have to keep reminding us.

It was a shock to see Adam in the Bottom Two last night, but no more shocking than seeing Danny consistently safe week after week. Adam is, by far, the best singer (with Allison close behind). Kris gets points for “cute”, but his vocals ranked him a cut below nearly all of Matt’s performances, in my opinion. That leaves the highly overrated Danny at the back of the ‘pack’ for me..(although his ‘Rat Pack’ performance was far better than any of his others). Adam backers need to hit those phones with a vengeance next Tuesday. Too many, like myself, didn’t think it was necessary yet. It is now.

The top three in order should be: Adam, Allison and Danny in that order. And all that screaming you all are refering too, may be what a true ARTIST is supposed to sound like when you have that voice, you know that unique voice that reaches out to people. Obviously thats why Adam stands out among the others.

I think Adam ROCKS!!! I don’t know what america was thinking. Although I think it would be better for Adam’s career if he was voted off.

Sad as I was, I wasn’t shocked to see Matt go home. I have no doubts though that he’ll still end up putting out an album. He’s really pretty talented. I go back and forth on Adam. Most of the time I like him but then other times I kind of hate his singing. I don’t think he should’ve been bottom 3 (that should’ve fallen to Danny of course — who after weeks and weeks of singing live still can’t sing or dance his way out of a paper bag) but that’s the breaks. I was really glad that Kris was safe as well as Allison. I hope the final 3 comes down to Adam, Kris and Allison followed by Adam and Kris for the top 2. After that it’s a toss-up. This season is definitely one of the best so far in terms of talent. It’s really hard to send them home at this point as they’re all good.

Even though he didn’t go home, I was doing a little happy dance in my head about Adam being in the bottom 2. Reality check Adam - you’re not all that and a bag of chips! I’m hoping it was that people are getting tired of the screeching, but it may very well be that his fans thought he would be safe. Either way, he was in the bottom!! I am sad to see Matt go - I really liked him, but he just wasn’t consistent enough. Here’s hoping to a Danny/Kris finale!

Just about everyone that posts on a regular basis got it right with Matt going home.I don’t remember anyone having Adam in the bottom 3, but I was glad to see him there because he needs to be humbled a little, and perhaps (like me) people think that he is good/talented, but the screaming and “theater-type” performances are beginning to be a bore.

I was quite surprised by those results - but VERY pleasantly so because I thought that America totally got it right! That is the exact order that I would have put them in as far as my preference - but that is surprising because my tastes aren’t usually the norm. But as Jaime was saying - it’s not like any of them suck at this point - I actually like all 5 of them - it’s just time to shave it down to the best of the best. I really didn’t expect Adam to be in the bottom - I don’t know if his screams are getting tiresome for other folks or if his fans just assumed he was safe. Danny is now the only one left that hasn’t been in the bottom - right? And perhaps I’m Taylor’s only remaining fan - but I am true blue and I still LOVE him. His voice is so unique and I’m just absolutely crazy about it. I have worn out his first album, one of his songs plays as the ring tone on my cell, I’ve seen him in concert twice and I’m excited that he has new music coming out. Wish I could see him perform in Grease too - but probably not going to happen. Anyway - I’m looking forward to rock week! What would y’all like to hear the remaining 4 sing???

You also must remember, every time someone is sent home, their votes are then distributed between the remaining people the next week. Perhaps the voters for Lil and Anoop spent their votes against Adam and that’s how he ended up next to last.

I was glad to see Adam in the bottom three. He deserved to be there after his performance this week. I think America got it right with Matt going home. He can sing, but I didn’t think he could win. My top three are Danny, Allison and Kris, in that order.

I think America got it right this time, for a change. Danny has a future in musical theater, but I still don’t see much potential as a solo artist. Allison and Danny both have unique voices and should do well as recording artists.

America was right on the money with this one. Matt’s time was up. The thing for me with Adam is that it was a little shocking, but he was just ok last night. I think everyone can agree on that. I am a Adam fan but they need to realize that its crunch time and its only 4 left! It has to be WOW from here on out! Next week will be exciting! It’s Adam and Allison’s week to shine and Danny and Kris to step their game up!

It was time for Matt to be handed his tired hat and shown the door. Couple of notes: Simon was surprisingly (even somewhat convincingly) self-effacing when he said that it was obvious that no one should listen to him. Also, Paula’s dress was comically revealing. The only thing it left to the imagination was whether she had had work done.
