Idol judges split on save but Scott goes home anyway.

The show starts with a surprise appearance by Frankie Avalon singing Venus. This song was a hit in 1959, the year Simon was born. Frankie was amazing. Sounded just like when the song was first released, which of course I don’t actually remember because I wasn’t born yet but my parents had the LP. The group song tonight looked “live” instead of pre-recorded and lip-synched.

Now on to predictions. DialIdol.com has the bottom three Scott, Anoop and Kris, with Kris going home. I have a hard time believing that one but DialIdol has been right most of the time again this season soooooo. Our Idol Poll predicts Lil, Scott and Anoop with Scott leaving overwhelmingly. Some of our faithful bloggers feel pretty strongly about this one…we will see who has it right this week.

Getting into the eliminations, Ryan asks Adam, Kris and Anoop to stand. No big surprise that Adam is safe. Kris is safe and Anoop is in the bottom three. Not real surprising.

FloRida performs his #1 single Right Round. This is a cover of an older song with a few interesting lyric changes that my sister did not discover until she heard her 8 and 10 year old singing them. Not real appropriate for my sweet angelic nieces. When you first hear the song, it is easy to remember the old one and not listen that closely to the new lyrics. Well, until you hear preteens singing it. Not good. But worth a giggle from Aunt Kelle.

Danny stands and then quickly sits in the safe zone. Matt stands and sits with him. Scott stands and Ryan announces he is in the bottom three. Allison stands with Lil and Allison is safe with Lil in the bottom three for the first time.

Kelly Pickler comes back to perform Best Days Of Your Life. First of all, to be catty, I hate her hair. It was so adorable in the short bob she got just after Season 5. Then, I didn’t think her performance was as good as half of the top 8 this season. Pitchy and she sounded like she screamed a lot of the song. I imagine Simon was just cringing.

The bottom three come to the center of the stage. Lil heads back to the couches because she is safe. Out of 34,000,000 votes only 30,000 separate Scott and Anoop. Anoop is safe and Scott gets to sing for the judges in an attempt to get the judges save. Scott sings better tonight than he did last night but he is never going all the way so he just needs to go. The judges are tied two to two and Simon ultimately makes the decision to send Scott home. The judges actually look like they are truly debating whether to keep or let go.

The goodbye clip with his journey is pretty cool and he is an inspiration but because Paula runs her mouth at the end, we don’t get to hear what next week’s theme is. Thanks Paula.

By the way, our Idol poll predicted the bottom three and Scott leaving when DialIdol did not! Way to go! Our bloggers mostly got it right too. Are we Idol aficionados or not?

Hey Kelle - did you get your David Cook tickets? Sold out in 3 minutes - wow! They had the ticket limit set too high! Too bad he’s not playing a bigger venue!

Lil should of went home. She is picking all the wrong songs and is not that good. she is lost in what she is doing. chris and anoop needs to step up or they will be gone. in the end unless i am wrong i thinks its gonna be adam, matt, and allision. Adam knows his game and has it right so far. and the standing ov from simon? whow what a complaiment. He gave adam advice about four weeks ago and he listend and is doing what is needed. he has his head and game on knows what he wants and where he is going.I hope he wins in the end. He is the best of all,but we all know it only takes one mistake to get the ax.

Well I’ll be - that’s interesting, Kelle. I didn’t watch Season 3 - in fact I have only watched 1 and 5 all the way through. Usually I just watch the auditions and I’m done once they get to the top 24 (36!). But this was one of those rare years that a contestant - or 4 - really caught my attention - so I’m hanging in there and looking forward to each week! :)

Thanks for the info gang on the theme for next week. This actually isn’t Quentin Tarantino’s first stint on American Idol. He was a guest judge five years ago during season three. His comments to the contestants were awesome and pretty insightful for a non-singer. I for one cannot wait!!!

Quentin Tarantino as a mentor??? Seriously?? Did I miss the part where he is in the position to coach young singing stars? Maybe if they are looking to polish up their acting skills for the Ford commercials… That is just WEIRD - it’s all turning into a bunch of publicity hype. The artist’s that perform are so random too - Wednesday nights have turned into some kind of variety show or something. I wonder who they will have perform on Wednesday night after this theme?? Billy Bob Thornton and his band??? Just…strange…

Yeah, next week’s theme is “Songs of the Cinema” with guest mentor Quentin Tarantino. This should be good. I don’t think Lil’s attitude is bad, I think she is just getting frustrated because she thinks she is picking the right song and the judges tell her otherwise. She is not a bad singer, she just keeps over thinking everything.

Read on a Yahoo article about the show that next weeks guest was Quinten Tarintino and the them is “At the Movies” or something like that dealing with movie soundtrack songs.

Kim - I just did a google search on something like - American Idol theme 4/14/09 - and came up with a fan site that had it listed. I couldn’t find it on the actual AI site either.

Thanks for the theme, Heather! I tried to look on the Idol website, but I didn’t have any luck - interesting to know. I wonder if that counts as any song that has been on a movie soundtrack or if it has to be a song written specifically for a movie/musical? The version of “Mad World” that Adam sang was actually from a movie soundtrack - it was different from the 1982 original by Tears for Fears.

I’m with you Kim - I was getting really nervous that they might actually use the save on Scott. I never would have thought in a million years that they would even consider it. Oh well, at least Simon had some sense. I just looked online and found next week’s theme - Songs from the movies. That might be pretty decent - there are some good ones out there.

I was a little surprised to see Anoop in bottom 2 - but not necessarily in the bottom 3. It’s just so close that I knew he could be. It should have been Lil - I’m with you, M - I don’t get it. I’m glad Anoop survives another week - but I know he can’t be there too much longer. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts! It was definitely time for Scott to leave and I can’t believe for a second that they actually considered saving him. Simon was right when he said, “There are lots of good singers over there, this isn’t just about you.” Scott is a great guy and a great inspiration, but he was definitely getting out of his league - he’s just not that good. I think more of his talent lies in his playing rather than his singing. And they can only do saves until it gets to the top 5, right? So there are only 2 more weeks that we have to go through that part. And Kelle - I’m going to sharpen my claws right along with you on Picklehead. You may recall from Season 5 that I hated this chick with a passion and I STILL don’t get it! I was STUNNED that she is actually making records - she’s terrible. I guess they can work wonders in a studio though. Yuck - was NOT glad to see her back. Wish we knew what next week’s theme is - but I don’t think he said.

Scott is a talent, and obviously a nice guy to be around, etc. However, the vote was right. It was his time. Nice to see the judges actually have to really think about using that save now. Lil needs to be great next week, or she’s gone, and she knows it.

Whose vote is Lil getting? Personally, I don’t care for her attitude. She is not a bad singer but I don’t find her likable. Am I alone on this one?

Wow Kelle! You got it right! I was actually shocked to see Anoop in the bottom 3 and 2! He wasn’t that bad! Lil was worst! Well, I don’t know what next week’s theme is, but I look forward to it!
