Dancing with the Stars - Steve-O’s a no go! - Results Update

Tonight’s episode of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ reinforced what many of us have already come to know… shows like this one are more about the star’s popularity than they are about the dancing.

David Alan Grier & Kym Johnson and Lawrence Taylor & Edyta Sliwins are far from the best dancers on the floor, but how is it that Steve-O & Lacey Schwimmer keep making it through? Each of the last few weeks they’ve been near the bottom and somehow, the get enough votes to stay despite their low scores.

I’m not sure if anyone else noticed this, but why does David Alan Grier look so angry? Last night and again tonight, you could see the muscles in his face all tensed up…. my grandma would have told him to stop holding his face like that our it would stay that way.

For me, the highlight of tonight’s show was the Macy’s Stars of Dance performance. I didn’t catch the name of the group, but they were a mix of Hawaiian Polynesian Luau dancers meet circus performers - amazing!

The dance off, not so much. David Alan Grier & Kym Johnson’s performance was better than last night, but still a little lacking.

Lawrence Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska were even less inspired and it seemed to me like the big guy had already checked out. But, when the judge’s scores were added to the viewer’s, David Alan Grier & Kym Johnson just danced their last dance on this season of Dancing with the Stars.

Perhaps, next week will be the week Steve-O goes?

Simon gives a standing O on American Idol !!

This week songs are from the year of the contestants birth. Too much filler and fluff, let’s just get to the singing!! Oh yeah, how ‘bout a little teaser…who do you think got a standing ovation from all four judges led by Simon?

Don’t forget to vote on our Idol Poll!

Danny Gokey sings Stand By Me.

My take: Danny can sing, no one can argue that. I wasn’t as fond of the beginning as the end. I loved when he switched up the tempo and did his Danny little head bop thing. I don’t know if it blew me away but it was really good and vintage Danny.

Judges take: Randy loved him but not the arrangement and Kara agreed. Paula suggested he opened tonight’s show with the bar so high it’s going to be tough for everyone else. Simon thought the beginning was good, the middle was lazy and the end was terrific.

Kris Allen sings All She Wants to Do Is Dance.

My take: I think that when the contestants decide to sing out in the crowd instead of on stage it is a jinx or something. Kris sang the song well but it didn’t have the impact the last couple weeks had. He’ll stay another week, thank goodness. This just wasn’t my favorite Kris performance.

The judges take: Kara thinks it felt like jazz/funk homework from school and it lost a lot of its youth. Paula thinks he has to be one of the most likable contestants they have ever had. Simon says his favorite word this season…indulgent. It’s also boring and a stupid song choice. Randy agreed with Simon and he “lost Kris” in the indulgence.

Lil Round sang What’s Love Got to Do With It.

My take: Sounds like a broken record but once again, she is a wonderful singer but Lil just hasn’t “brought it” in weeks. Solid vocals but it is lacking some kind of spark or something. Do you know what I mean?

Judges take: Paula thinks she is a brilliant vocalist but that only gets you so far and she didn’t feel that she is becoming too karaoke. Simon thinks it was a ghastly copy of a third rate Tina Turner. Randy says Lil is mad, mad talented but it is just not clicking right now. Kara thinks she is not making the leap from singer to artist.

Anoop Desai tries to explain his arrogant behavior of last week after Kara critiqued him and he said “excuse me?” He said this is not how he wants to represent himself. He sings True Colors.

My take: It is a good thing that he slowed it down this week; however, as good as he is with type of song, and I don’t think he is versatile enough to make it to the end. It was a nice performance but enough to keep ihim one more week? Yeah…maybe.

Judges take: Randy liked it. Kara said that he interpreted a pop song with soul and chose a great song. Paula thought it was fantastic and his best performance so far. Simon didn’t think it was fantastic, but he was good. He thinks Anoop is like a yo-yo, one week he’s down and the next he’s up. And he added that he didn’t need to apologize for his reaction last week. They are mean to the contestants and the contestants can be whatever they want to be back.

Scott Macintyre sings The Search Is Over

My take: It was a surprise to see him standing in front of the microphone with a guitar. I think it was a nice version of the song but nothing special. I think he just looks awkward when he is not behind the piano. I know he is trying to show his versatility but he should stay behind the keyboard.

Judges take: Kara is not sure if it was his best performance but there were parts she liked and parts that were too over ambitious. Paula thinks he may be reaching for the high notes and he came off a bit screechy. Simon suggests he goes back to the piano next week, the song was horrible and the guitar playing wasn’t good either. Bad song choice. Randy said it was just okay.

Allison Iraheta sings I Can’t Make You Love Me .

My take: This girl is already an American Idol. Already. It doesn’t really matter if she wins or not. An incredible version of an incredible and timeless song. Amazing.

Judges take: Anyone else notice the lipstick all over Paula’s teeth? It is crackin’ me up. Paula thinks that you just hear one note and know undeniably that it is Allison. Simon thought it was very good but he doesn’t think she is very likable yet and she needs to let her personality out. Randy once again compared her to Kelly Clarkson and thinks she is one of the best of the night. Kara says “let’s go make a record man!”

Matt Giraud sang Part Time Lover

My take: One line in and I’m hooked already. He pulls off the “cool” and pulls off the “sexy!” I’m crushin’ on Matt tonight. Wow. Oh yeah, the kid can really sing too. ; )

Judges take: Randy thinks vocally one of the best of the night. Kara says incredible on every level. Paula two words, standing “O”. Simon “million times better than last week, well done.” They are running late again and have about 2 seconds a piece for critiques. It’s wrong, wrong.

Back lit in blue…beautiful!

Adam Lambert gets the last spot and they are running late, late, late. Poor Adam will get the same quick comments I’m sure. He decides to sing Mad World.

My take: First of all he has a softer look this week with the hair in a less extreme style. He sings the whole song while back lit in blue. Kind of a neat effect. No over the top showmanship. Just singing. And by the way, Adam was brilliant! Undeniably brilliant!

Judges take: Because they are running late so Simon is the only one who has time to talk and all he is going to say is…..and he stands and claps. For you die hard Idol fans, I think I can remember only a couple times I’ve ever seen him giving a standing “O” and the other three judges joined him. He deserved it. Wow.

The couple last three performances have my head twirling so I can’t remember back to who I think should go. I’m going to say off the cuff that bottom three should be Scott, Lil and Anoop with Lil or Scott going home.

Once again, let us know what you think on our Idol Poll. Just amazing end to a show that runs long. I’m off to vote!
