Bravo orders up “Runway” competition

Bravo isn’t letting a court battle over “Project Runway” diminish its fashion sense.

The cable channel has ordered a design-competition series called “The Fashion Show,” in which viewers pick the winner and the prize includes a retail deal.

Casting calls will be held starting next month and are set for Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and New York, with potential contestants required to bring examples of their work, Bravo said. The series’ air date was not announced.

“The Fashion Show” is “the perfect complement to our successful fashion series Tim Gunn's Guide to Style' andThe Rachel Zoe Project,’” Bravo Media executive Frances Berwick said in a statement. Missing from that list was “Project Runway,” the hit program that is caught in a struggle involving NBC Universal, which owns Bravo, the Weinstein Co. and the Lifetime channel.

NBC Universal sued Weinstein after the production company made a reported $150 million deal with Lifetime for the series that features model Heidi Klum as host. In September, a New York Supreme Court justice issued a temporary injunction barring Weinstein from taking “Project Runway” or any spinoff to Lifetime and contended that evidence showed that Weinstein violated NBC’s “right of first refusal” for the show.

Weinstein said there was no right of first refusal in the contract and that NBC Universal was offered the deal and was outbid. The sixth season of “Project Runway” was expected to start airing in January on Lifetime.

Bravo has other fashion-oriented series in development, including “Celebrity Sew-Off,” which would give the famous a chance to display their design skills.

Dancing with the Stars: Week 6 -The Results Show

The Pussy Cat Dolls and Michael Flatley of Lord of the Dance fame helped to heat up the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ dance floor for tonight’s (Oct 28) result show with sizzling performances. While the performances were fun to watch, what most of us really want to know is who will be exiting the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ series.

Returning for next week’s show are:

  • Lance Bass & Lacey Schwimmer
  • Cody Linley & Julianne Hough
  • Maurice Greene & Cheryl Burke
  • Brooke Burke & Derek Hough
  • Susan Lucci & Tony Dovolani
  • Warren Sapp & Kym Johnson

America has voted. Cloris Leachman & Corky Ballas danced their last dance and will be heading home. Although, Cloris claims she’s not leaving and will be back next week - I’d say she try her best to be back - but I think she’e worn out her welcome.

Did America and the Judges get this one right? I think so.

Dancing with the Stars: Week 6 - A Hip-hop granny and more

Tonight’s show (Oct. 27), is set to feature Granny Cloris hanging on to do the old-school hip hop.

Viewers will also get to see yet another couple face the challenge of an injury. This time it’s Brooke Burke who has pulled a tendon in her foot. Will this be enough to keep them out of the running for the top spot?

Another unknown factor for tongiht’s show could be the guest judge - Michael Flatley of Lord of the Dance fame. Will he be harder on the dancers than Len Goodman?

On with the show -

Tonight’s “Dancing with the Stars’ Judges Comments

Maurice Greene & Cheryl Burke

Tonight’s dance - Viennese Waltz At times it seemed as though this couple was on… and then all of a sudden - Maurice was stiff as a board.

Judges Comments

Michael Flatley - 7 - Cheers - beautiful stuff.

Bruno Tonioli - 7 - At times you look like a surfer on dry land.

Carrie Ann Inaba - 7 - I thought it was sweet- Total Score 21 out of 30

Lance Bass & Lacey Schwimmer

Tonight’s dance - The Jive Full of energy and fun - their best dance of the season

Judges Comments

Michael Flatley - 9 - You had everything tonight.

Bruno Tonioli - 9 - The Lance is back on target.

Carrie Ann Inaba - 9 - Finally, that’s what we want to see.

Total Score 27 out of 30

Susan Lucci & Tony Dovolani

Tonight’s dance - Mambo I’m not sure if she was ‘wild and untamed’ as she claimed she would be… but a better performance than all most all of the other peformances

Judges Comments

Michael Flatley -8 - You might have been off a little off on your timing but no need to dwell on it.

Bruno Tonioli - 7 - Finally we are starting to see the devil…

Carrie Ann Inaba - 8 - You broke the box sister.

Total Score 23 out of 30

Brooke Burke & Derek Hough

Tonight’s dance - Rumba Derek did a nice job of pulling together a routine that played to their combined strengths - Nice job.

Judges Comments

Michael Flatley - 10 - You took my breath away.

Bruno Tonioli - 8 - Even standing here you have ability to smolder like a flame.

Carrie Ann Inaba - 8 - This was not your best dance. I feel that the injury held you back.

Total Score 26 out of 30

Cloris Leachman & Corky Ballas

Tonight’s dance - Vintage Cha Cha Cha I know that she’s been taking a lot of grief for all of her antics, but there is something about her and Corky’s performances that are just fun to watch. Will she win, no and I’m guessing her time on the show is coming to an end.

Judges Comments

Michael Flatley - 5 - you’re a legend - i think you are incredible lucky to have a talent man like (Corky) him

Bruno Tonioli - 5 - you’ve got to be the only person in the wold to sell such nonsense.

Carrie Ann Inaba - 5 - it sad to have lost Toni Braxton to this (performance). Total Score 15 out of 30

Cody Linley & Julianne Hough

Tonight’s dance - Samba Early in the competition I would have written Cody off… but tonight’s performance was solid, maybe a little too solid but he’s really improved since the beginning of the competition.

Judges Comments

Michael Flatley - 8 - I thought you got it completely wrong this week.

Bruno Tonioli - 7 - There’s some good news and bad news - the best is yet to come from you.

Carrie Ann Inaba - 8 - That was the most intense Samba - I like it. Total Score 23 out of 30

Warren Sapp & Kym Johnson

Tonight’s dance - Samba Warren’s has the unique skill of being a big guy that can glide across the dance floor. Not their best dance ever but a solid performance.

Judges Comments

Michael Flatley - 9 - Very interesting - very, very interesting.

Bruno Tonioli - 8 - You’ve got a knack of getting the character right.

Carrie Ann Inaba -8 - That was pretty sexy. Total Score 25 out of 30

The final element of tonight’s show is the group dance where the dancers will be dancing an old-school hop hop. Even Granny Cloris got into the dance - at least for a moment or two before she disappeared to the back stage to watch the other dancers dance. I was disappointed to see her return to the front of the stage when the group dance was over.

I think it may be time for Cloris to go… Do you agree?

Dancing with the Stars - Results - Week 5

Five weeks of Dancing with the Stars are now complete… and at the end tonight’s (Oct 21) show there will be just seven couples left competing for the Mirror Ball trophy.

Performing during tonight’s result show was Brian Selzer Orchestra - what’s not to love about a big band performance.

The result show also has another feature that’s hard not to love - the segment where the kids dance. First up, Anthony and Alisa, ages 10 and 11 respectively. The judges’ comments - “Fantastic” _ “Both of you are adorable.”

Also competing for the Jr. title are Mitchell and Maria - 12 and 13. Judges’ Comments - ” You two are fantastic” - “You captured the flavor of the dance” - “You were born to rule.”

The Judges decided that “Mitchell and Maria will be dancing in the finals later in the season.

Before the final contestants are reveled, Macy’s presented a highly choreographed history through the decades of dance… I wander if there is a return policy on that performance?

Coming back for another week are

  • Warren Sapp & Kym Johnson
  • Cloris Leachman & Corky Ballas
  • Cody Linley & Julianne Hough
  • Maurice Greene & Cheryl Burke
  • Brooke Burke & Derek Hough
  • Lance Bass & Lacey Schwimmer
  • Susan Lucci & Tony Dovolani

America voted and Toni Braxton & Alec Maz are going home. I thought it might have been Lance Bass & Lacey Schwimmer. No matter who went home this week, I thought it was too close call.

We’re half-way through season 7 of Dancing with the Stars - and against the odds, Cloris Leachman is still dancing. Will this week be here last dance? I keep asking that question and yet she is still around.

Project Runway Season 5 and the Winner is…

Tonight’s finale featured a few things we expected - a tearful designer or two, a not so surprise judge, a caustic Kenley and something we didn’t expect - A pooping dog

Since the finale was taped in September, video and photos have been floating around on the internet, so, there weren’t too many surprises in terms of the collections presented in the show.

I did have to wonder what Korto was thinking… making two new peices for the runway show. I can’t imagine the pressure of trying to make two new pieces while trying to organize a show.

One of the best parts of the finale is watching all of the behind the scenes drama unfolding before the show begins.

Kenley continued to dismiss Tim Gunn’s feedback. I’ll bet she was second guessing that decision when she learned that Tim was one of the judges.

Leanne’s behind the scene challenge focused on one of her models bringing a dog to the fitting. Of course, it had to do its business and the model managed to clean it up wearing a floor length gown - good work!

The runway show.

Leanne was up first. Her work was bold and had clearly had strong European, Asian and 50s influences… My least favorite pieces were this green high collared dress and the oversized - tulle and ruffled skirt. Her wedding dress design grew on me.

Next up - Korto - She dedicated her collection to her family. Her fabrics were silky and shimmery, yet somehow a little less than I expected from her. Her strongest piece, even though traditional in style, was the wedding gown. The fabric of the outfit she was wearing would have made a great beginning of another.

Finally, Leanne

Her collection was influenced by water, was the most out there of the three collections. Fresh and flowing - all in a subtle and subdued palette… Very elegant and modern. The wedding gown was believable yet fresh in an unexpected way. I think my earlier thoughts are correct… I think she won!

An interesting part of the show is yet to come - the judges comments. This will be the first time we hear Tim’s thoughts from the judges chair.

Judges comments about the designers -

Kenley -

Michael - Loved the painting

Tim - Have a point of view

Nina - The only dress reminds me of another designer…

Korto -

Michael - Loved the inspiration

Nina - Effortlessly cohesive

Tim - Hit a bulls-eye

Leanne -

Michael - The workmanship look divine

Nina - Loved the variety

Tim - Smashing - smart- fantastic look

From the judges comments - I’d say Leanne is the winner… let’s see. One clue, is that the judges didn’t take too long to deliberate this season

First to go… Kenley… So that just leaves Korto and Leanne… And the winner is… Leanne!

I think the judges got it right! Congrats to Leanne!

Project Runway Season Finale

In case you skipped this very important reality TV moment for the all too real drama of the presidential debate: Leanne won.

You also missed some incredible collections, so make sure to check out the reruns.

I had originally wanted to wait for all the final Project Runway collections to be revealed during the finale, but I looked at a bunch of fashion week pictures ahead of time.

Based on those photos I was ready to hand over a victory to Korto. I’ve been a Leanne faithful the whole season, but Korto’s bright, wearable dresses made me think she was a lock.

The actual show tonight did not disappoint. I ended up loving all the collections, even Kenley’s. Leanne’s looks were so feminine and dreamlike, and Kenley’s colors were playful, but Korto’s collection as a whole was simply stunning. I’d wear every single outfit she sent down that runway. I decided I’d be happy if she won, even if it meant my fav gal Leanne coming in second.

Then, surprise! Leanne is the winner. I’m so buying anything she sells on Bluefly.com.

What did you think of the collections? Were you surprised Leanne won?

Project Runway Season 5 Finale Update

While many in the country are likely to be glued to the set to watch the final Presidential debate before the 2008 election, reality TV fans are likely to be catching the finale episode of Project Runway (I’m using the DVR for one of the shows).

In a season that was less that stellar, the cream of this crop of from this season’s show and will be competing on the runway on tonight’s finale (Oct 15).

The finalists - Kenley, Korto, Leanne, will each bring their unique design talents to the show. Of course, Kenley will bring her grating personality, but since the show is all about design, we’ll let the go. Kenley is sure to bring her 50s inspired looks to the runway - Korto was inspired by nature and her heritage and Leanne’s collections was inspired by water.

Don’t forget that tonight’s show might be the last for as the producers and Bravo TV are in a legal dispute.

Do you have a favorite designer from this season’s show? Based on some of the photos from the finale, I’d vote for Leanne. Agree?

Misty May-Treanor’s misfortune turned out to be Rocco Dispirito’s good fortune on last week’s show. Rocco and Karina were spared elimination due to Misty’s injury. Can Rocco and Karina get that lucky for a second week?

‘Dancing with the Stars’ Surprise - The Results - Week 3

After tonight’s show (Oct 7), there will be just eight couples left dancing for the mirror ball trophy.

Despite Misty departure, Makism got his chance to dance to jive as Edyta joined him to kick off tonight’s show.

Without further ado… here’s a list of who will be dancing on next week’s show -

  • Brooke Burke & Derek Hough
  • Cloris Leachman & Corky Ballas
  • Maurice Greene & Cheryl Burke
  • Warren Sapp & Kym Johnson
  • Toni Braxton & Alec Maz

Other entertainment from tonight’s show included performances from Cool and the Gang - performing all their 80s hits, The Radio City Rockettes The Rockettes will be in Dayton later this year if you want to see them live and in person and finally, Jennifer Hudson singing her single - “Spotlight.”

I was betting on the idea that this would be the week that Cloris and Corky would be going home… guess not. So, who will it be? Perhaps - Rocco? No one…

That’s right! No one is going home tonight. However, we do find out who is at the bottom of the scoreboard after last night’s show.

While all the couples are safe - the voting reavled the next three couples would have been safe…

  • Lance Bass & Lacey Schwimmer
  • Susan Lucci & Tony Dovolani
  • Cody Linley & Julianne Hough

So that means that Rocco Dispirito & Karina Smirnoff would have been going home. America got it right… Rocco seemed disconnected and underwhelming during last night’s performance! Agree?

During rehearsals, Misty and her partner were putting the final touches on the Jive for this week’s show, when Misty, and everyone on stage, heard a pop and the pain followed. The popping sound was her Achilles tendon rupturing. Misty will be going into surgery tomorrow (Oct. 7). Misty and Mak are out for the season.

After tonight’s performances, who will be joining Misty and Maksim on the sidelines?

Dancing with Stars - Least favorite couple? - Latest update

I realize that it’s early in the Dancing with the Stars season to have a favorite, but here’s a twist.

Who is the least appealing star couple left on ‘Dancing With the Stars?’ Early polling data seems to suggest Cloris Leachman and Corky aren’t so popular - and I don’t know why - I love her energy and her enthusiasm! Since I’m not voting I’ll throw it out to you - do you have a least favorite ‘Dancing with the Stars couple?
