Dancing with the Stars third season looks to be hot!
I’ll admit, until the last couple of shows last season, this reality series was completely off my radar. Amazing since this is season three. Yeah, I heard some talk about it but apparently none that was too compelling…until one of my coworkers was filling me in on how good contestant (and ultimately the winner) Drew Lachey had gotten and how much he and his fiancé enjoyed the show. I was intrigued and once I tuned in, I was hooked. I know, I know. Hi, my name is Kelle and I’m a Reality TV junkie.
I’m thrilled to be able to watch this season from the beginning. I’ve got to tell you that after the first week, Emmitt Smith pleasantly surprised me, but what were they thinking with Jerry Springer? I just knew Vivica A. Fox would have potential and when I heard Joey Lawrence was going to be on… Well, in the spirit of honesty, I actually purchased his album many eons ago. I knew every word to every song. I used to have a major crush and I have high hopes for Joey on this show, but what is with the bald head? Bald is sexy on some guys but the jury is out on this one.
My early favorite, and new crush, is Mario Lopez. Wow can he move! And he’s just so cute all excited and nervous and those dimples. But then when he danced; pure sex appeal.
Since we’re only one show into the season and each one of these competitions have different rules and voting, let’s do a brief overview.
HOW IT WORKS: The dancers compete in the Ballroom and Latin American styles of dance; including Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Jive, Paso Doble, Quickstep, Rumba, Samba, Tango, Viennese Waltz, and the Waltz.
During the live shows (Tuesdays at 8/7c)), three judges score the dances 1-10 each. The combined scores will rank the couples by the end of the show. However, judges’ scores alone do not decide a couple’s fate. Unlike other shows, the phone lines and online polls open at the beginning of each Tuesday night performance show. Phone lines stay open for 30 minutes after the end of the show. Online voting will remain open until noon the next day. I love the online voting component! Oh, and get this, only 10 votes permitted per phone line. I’ve been known, in special cases, to hit redial for two hours straight for one person on American Idol. Yeah! No more repetitive thumb injuries.
I also like the fact that the scoring is divided evenly between the judges and the viewers at home so you never know what will happen. In the results show (Wednesdays 8/7c), the couple with the lowest combined score (from the judges and the viewers) will be eliminated from the competition until there are two couples and then…dance-off!
