Uli was robbed! - “Project Runway”

As the project was introduced for this week (SEP 06) on Project Runway, I thought I understood the meaning of word couture. Obviously, what the word means to me and what it meant to the judges and designers are different meanings.

Dictionary.com lists the meaning of couture as:

–noun - the occupation of a couturier; dressmaking and designing. - fashion designers or couturiers collectively. - the clothes and related articles designed by such designers. - the business establishments of such designers, esp. where clothes are made to order. –adjective - created or produced by a fashion designer: couture clothes. - being, having, or suggesting the style, quality, etc., of a fashion designer; very fashionable: the couture look.

In Tim’s podcast he suggested that it is a French word for sewing or needle work and usually suggests hand sewing, hand beading, hand embellishments, basically hand done.

For Vincent - despite the instructions to use hand stitching, it meant bringing out a bottle of glue and gluing his wrong way facing design to the model. Not really but that man used a ton of glue and avoided answering Heidi’s question about the amount of hand sewing in the dress.

For Kayne – gold mesh and sparkles. That boy does love his glitz and glam. Since his world of prom and pageant designs require shimmer, he’s in a place in terms of his designing skills… i.e. he seems to be stuck.

Jeffery – Yellow tartan and plaids. All I can say is that his design was very bright.

Laura - While several designers do have a consistent point of view, i.e. everything is the same, I felt bad for her that her design traveled so poorly. That collar thingy almost looked dirty.

Michael - Wasn’t that amazing how different his design looked when they pushed the two, Rabbit Ears (as Heidi called them, I think). down back inside the dress. Clearly, he struggled with the idea how to execute couture.

Uli - I really do think she was robbed of a win, at least in terms of my definition of couture. Her design was elegant and sophisticated and clearly the winner for me.

Olympus Fashion week opens September 8th so we are getting close to the end of another great season.

Any clues about who might win? - I leaning toward Michael, Uli and Jeffery in the final three… any thoughts?

Yes, Uli was robbed. That crap Jeffrey sent down the runway didn’t deserve a win.
