Best finale show ever…Prince comes and Taylor wins!
The Best American Idol Finale ever! This is not by any means an empty statement. I expected a really good show, but didn’t expect this.
Favorite moment #1 After the horrible montage about the tryout of the pitiful Clay wanna be having to pee, etc. He sings, doors open, a tremendously handsome, tremendously missed Clay Aiken surprises him.
This will lose something in the translation but we are watching this kid just freak out on stage with Clay and one of my Idol Finale guests Kyle says, “I’ll bet he has to pee now! I’ll tell you this room full of people laughed so loud I’m a little surprised the cops didn’t come to break us up. A side note: love his new look and I really do miss him. I wish he would start recording again.
Favorite moment #2
Prince. Need I say more? After all the negative press he got for shunning the show, I would have never, ever, expected that. The way it played out with Ryan saying the guest star portion of the show was over, then the Purple One. Brilliant.
Favorite moment #3
The winner is announced… David Hasselhoff cries.
I loved the guy’s and girl’s sets. There will be people that I disagreed with throughout the season who will eat this up but I missed Bucky. I watched the guys perform and realized how talented and completely different they all are. I have my tickets to the summer concert and I cannot wait!
I enjoyed these so much more than the typical group number. A couple observations, Kellie still can’t walk in heels although the hair is a huge improvement and Mandisa should have made it so much further.
Rather than two hours of clips from the season I thought it was great that they kept those down to the Golden Idols, which I hate to admit I enjoyed.
Having the Idols sing with some of their Idols was pretty cool even though some of the parings were a bit odd.
Paris gets to sing We’re in This Love Together with Al Jarreau. It was nice.
Chris comes back to play Mystery with Live. Were these two bald men separated at birth? Chris fans are going to be angry, so brace yourselves, but all the talk about his being original? He’s a clone. But an extraordinary talented clone who in my opinion was better than the guy he was singing with. He looks so natural up there.
The Kellie Pickler-Wolfgang Puck thing…kind of cute, kind of stupid.
The Meatloaf-Katharine duet rumor turned out to be true. It’s All Coming Back to Me Now was an odd song with an odd pairing. To quote a text I got “Meatloaf…you are not going through to Hollywood.”
Elliott sings or should I say stands at the sidelines and watches Mary J. Blige sing One. Mary J. this is American Idol not one of your concerts. Nevertheless, I’m sure it was a thrill for Mr. Yamin.
Here’s where dread set in…at 9:00 p.m. on our Fox affiliate, they start replaying the first hour with a message on the screen about being previously recorded. Panic ensues, cell phones flip, text messaging at feverish speeds. It was probably the worst eight minutes of the entire season.
Burt Bacharach. You hear the name and think he’s an icon, but hearing all the songs, and it probably only represented a small number of them, and you realize what an amazing talent. The lyrics are so amazing…they still hold up today. Timeless. Wonder what he’s doing these days? The over 30 crowd at my house was all singing with the songs and the under 20 crowd were all staring like we were nuts. Burt who?
I said I was okay with whoever won and I am thrilled that Taylor won. Whoever would have thought at the beginning of the season we would be here? That said, on tonight’s show Katharine McPhee carried herself in such way that made me sad there couldn’t be two of them. But then Chris should be there…three of them? But what about Elliot? Four. Mandisa? Okay, the best Top Ten ever!!
Thanks to all the American Idol readers and bloggers. You really have made my first Reality Bytes blogging season unforgetable. But don’t forget to check back occassionally, I’ll be keeping you up on all things Idol even in the off season. Who has signed contracts, who gets arrested at what airport, who Ryan Seacrest is dating…well, you get the idea. Thank you all so much!
Don’t forget to check out So You Think You Can Dance tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. Think singers are the only folks that humiliate themselves?

great show, great winner. Taylor will become a big star. Does anyone know how many of the “brokenote cowboys” were playing a guitar on final episode? Where can I find a picture?

EEEEKKKK!!!! I heard Taylor’s single on the radio! He did it - he really did it! It has begun. And just for the record - he sounded great to me on the radio too - raised goosebumps on me! Sigh… (imagine dreamy look in my eyes here…) And I forgot to comment on Clay - it was great to see him and that was a great moment in the show. Not sure what I think of the new look - I actually thought it was kinda cool - but he didn’t look like Clay to me anymore. My daughter thought he looked hot - lol! Can’t believe it’s all over…

That? Was The. Best. Finale show, EVAH. I loved it! Every cheesy ooey-gooey part of it! (Well, except Prince took up too much stage time that should have been devoted to Taylor’s win.) I LOVED the montage of Simon touching his man-boobs over and over—Hilarious! I LOVED the Burt Bacharach & Dionne Warwick medley. I LOVED the real Clay appearing to the amazement of the Clay wanna-be, who looked like he was about to wet himself with excitement!! I LOVED how graceful and happy Kat seemed. I LOVED how Taylor thanked everybody in the midst of his coronation song. I LOVED that Elliott’s dear old Mum got an award, and was so excited that she got to keep it! I LOVED how happy Elliott looked, and how well he sang on “A house is not a home.” Awesome! I LOVED all the costumes (the guys looked hot and the girls looked elegantly sexy). Bucky DID sing well last night! (But was Paris sick or something? She didn’t sound as good as her usual self.) I just thought the whole thing was fantastically, hilariously cheesy and wonderful!! (Well, except Toni Braxton was downright scary trying to get all sexy during “In the Ghetto.”) Ahh, AI… I’m so sad it is all over. THANKS Kelle, for the opportunity to blog.

James - I agree that Taylor’s crowning seemed so secondary - rushed even. It made me wonder if they had run longer than they expected to. They were so busy cramming in so much other crap that there was very little focus on the REAL reason for the show - he didn’t even get to do a full version of his song! But I was proud of both Kat and Taylor - I thought it went very well. Kat took it well, and Taylor was a class act as always - especially with his round of thanks at the end that included his fellow idols. I am going to miss seeing him every week!!! And Karen - I kinda agreed with you that I thought most of the duets were kinda weird - were they piping some kind of toxic gas into the celebrity waiting room or something? I would have rather just seen the idols themselves - they are the reason that I’m watching. It was cool to see Prince - though it seemed rather random and odd - just what WAS that all about?? But at least he still has it going on. The Burt medley was awesome - what a contribution he has made to music! I love his stuff. But man - Paris really butchered “Close To You” - ew. And I remembered how much I hate Kellie - she still sucks and it’s torture for me to see her onstage - can’t stand her. Kevin grates on my last nerve too - still wondering how he made it that far. If this were “Disney Idol” then maybe… And I also remembered how way back when I wanted to ditch more girls to keep extra guys. For the most part - I didn’t enjoy the girls much at all and I loved the guys - with the exception of Kevin. I wish the girls would stay home so we could have a guys only tour! Mandisa is really the only female that I liked at all, and I didn’t like most of the material that she chose to sing - so there ya go. And I’m with you, Kelle - it was great to see Bucky back! He really grew on me and I enjoyed hearing and seeing him again. I think he has a voice and a look that is awesome for Rockabilly - I hope that he gets a contract somewhere along the way. And Elliot - dear Elliot - it was good to see Chris and Ace back too - overall I really enjoyed it. And I loved that Taylor got to play harmonica! And Taylor, yes baby, you make me PROUD!!! :)

I am so with Heather on this. Clay looked like he’d gone to the Michael Jackson school of makeover — a bit on the Thriller side. Not only that — he looked REALLY unhappy to be there, unhappy at sharing the stage with mini-Clay and altogether a little diva-ish. However, the whole scene was saved by how thrilled mini-Clay was to be on the stage with his idol, by his microphone being turned off because he wouldn’t quit singing so Clay could be heard and by Ryan finally edging the stool on stage and making mini-Clay sit down. It was the show’s highlight for me, too. Beyond all that — I agree it was the best ‘Idol’ finale ever (though the crowning of Taylor seemed strangely uncelebratory and anticlimactic). And Kelle, our house will be right there with you watching the dancers.

Great, great show - not disappointed at all. But, I do have to disagree with Kelle on one point - I thought Clay looked like a total fruitcake! UGH! (This is coming from someone who was a diehard Ruben fan!) The group numbers were all great. The duets were a little less desirable. And although I have never been a Meatloaf fan and thought he sounded bad, I thought that pairing was the best. Kat made it. I did not like Chris with Live (or was that, Chris with Chris? Camera trick? LOL) The Puck and Pickler thing was funny, but I could have done without the Idol Award segments. In the end - it was no surprise who the winner turned out to be. I do have to say I was thrilled at Kat’s reaction when Ryan said Taylor’s name - it just showed what I’ve said all along - she’s not as evil as so many people seem to think she is. Good Luck to both of them! And bring on the dancers tonight!!

Sir Critic, I wholeheartedly agree! I can’t wait for Kat’s album. And Meatloaf was horrific!

Bucky was just great last night singing “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”. He was my favorite all night except for of course Taylor. Taylor has always been my choice to win.

OK, I hate to rain on the parade, but I found the final show to be more of a has-been freak show. The stars they had on there (with the exception of Ms. Warwick & Prince, and new star Carrie Underwood) were awful. Clay looked like he had someone else hair on his head. Meatloaf, Al Jurrow (sp?), Toni Braxton & Mary J Bilge where awful, in my opinion. I thoughtit was more like Circus of the Freaks, than an Idol show. And to make fun of some of those young kids that were really serious when they auditioned, is just a cheap shot at trying to be funny. The one true shining moment was that Bucky can now sing and I can understand him and Mandisa was hot. Chris and Live were great, although it was freaking me out that they looked so much alike. Scary….. I think the show was over the top myself, but that’s just my humble opinion. Carrie Underwood looked totally awesome and sings like an angel. I did like that Pickler and Wolfgang seemed to have fun, but I thought the bulk of the show was really cheesy and not worthy of AI. A big Congrats to Taylor, although it was no surprise that he won over Kat. Ah well, I’ll be back next season anyway. Thanks for all the great blogging, Kelle!!!

Absolutely awesome season finale. Very well produced and directed. I wonder how many weeks the final 12 had been rehearsing the numbers? I find it hard to believe a show this good was put together in a week! The hokey parts I could have done without … okay, they generated a few laughs but I would have rather they used the time for another musical number. I was that impressed. Favorite moment had to be Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick. Yes, I’m in the over 30 crowd too. She’s still simply amazing and even at age 65 she is still the diva. On a final note, my thanks to Kelle and all the “bloggers” who have made this a wonderful experience. I have my tickets to the live tour and who knows, maybe I’ll run into some of you at the concert.

I have spent much of my commenting here talking about my first Idol crush, Kat. However, that does not mean I am upset at Taylor’s victory. He is a tremendous showman, a fine singer and a joy to watch. I’m glad to see an Idol that does not fit so easily into the Billboard charts, but Taylor will surely find a way. As for my girl, Kelle got it absolutely right…she carried herself very well Wednesday. While it would have been great to hear Ryan call her name, Kat only “lost” this contest numerically. I am certain she will go on to a brilliant career, so long as she puts out a restraning order on the folks who wrote “My Destiny.”

Loved the show—even the hokey parts. LOVE Clay’s new look, & I have missed him, too.It was hard to watch as I was at work, but I managed it & am so glad I did. Will now buy the CD & check out tickets for the tour!
