“Project Runway” inspires fashion majors at Parsons
The familiar backdrop to Bravo TV’s Project Runway, Parsons School of Design in New York, is benefiting from a renewed interest in fashion and fashion design. According to a story in the NY Times a few days ago, the number of applications has increased by nearly 20% making fashion the largest major at Parsons.
Donna Karan, Anna Sui and Narciso Rodriguez are just a few of the famous alumni of Parsons, and like many other successful entrepreneurs they actually didn’t complete enough of their course work to actually graduate. According to Tim Gunn, chairman of the fashion department “There was a time when there was not that much incentive for a designer to graduate.” So for anyone who thought there is little value in reality TV, here’s a story to suggest otherwise!
