A lesson in how not to manage - “The Apprentice”
Hurried, barking, rapid fire, crazy, unfocused are just a few of the words you might use to describe the management style of Dan, this week’s (MAR 27) project manager for team Gold Rush on The Apprentice.
Dan managed to loose his team from his first words. Possessing drive and energy are very important attributes for any manager, but you have to remember to breath, make a plan, listen to your people, choose the best course, and engage your people in the process.
Dan made several mistakes. First, he listened to Lenny. Second, he didn’t listen to Lenny. Third and most fatal, he didn’t bring Lenny into the boardroom. It was pretty clear, had he brought Lenny into the boardroom, he might not have gone home.
The show is starting to get a little more interesting but seems to be missing the spark that made The Apprentice one of the shows to watch on TV. From the ratings so far, it appears others might be feeling the same way.
The next challenge (APR 03) - write a jingle for Arby’s Natural Chicken, which team will crack under the pressure?
