The Reality of the Apprentice Don’t blame Martha for low ratings!

With this week’s episode (Oct. 20) I have come to the following conclusion: This series has become too commercial. Thinking back a few seasons, I remember it being more exciting, more drama, and overall more interesting.

Sure, there are a few characters with a little drama, like Marcus, and the snippy blonde who went home this week… Nevertheless, the sense of challenge and adventure are missing.

So Donald, rather than traveling from talk show to talk show blaming others for your rating woes, why not look at the contestants and the challenges your offering this season and create something offering us a little more… More drama, more excitement, and more watching the hands on process.

I’m hopeful that by the end of the season, I’m singing a different tune, but right now, I’m thinking this is the end of the franchise. Unless… you can file bankruptcy for a TV series and reorganize, oh wait… the law just changed.

If you want to Know where Trump’s gone wrong, take a second to watch an episode of the British version, featuring Amstrad’s Sir Alan Sugar. Sugar succeeds in keeping his business and commercial lives seperate. Instead of offering self-indulgent ‘business tips’, sugar works properly during the day, and saves any talking for the boardroom, retaining credibility and profile. There is no arrogant schmoozing, nor does he attempt to market his products mid-show. In conclusion, ‘the Apprentice’ paradox is thus - although no reality TV show will ever generate a regular job interview, Trump’s ego-centric format has moved the series on to an impossibly surreal level, that the business world should send him packing. However, when I should be moved to turn off, I can’t help but turn-on in order to feel good about myself in comparisson to the gaudy spectacle that is Donald Trump’s ego.
