HALFTIME: Taft 42, Madison 22
Defense wins ballgames and it’s certainly winning this Division III regional semifinal between Taft and Madison. Taft’s defensive pressure is giving Madison troubles. The Senators have a commanding halftime lead of 42-22.
At one point Taft broke an 11-all tie with a 19-0 scoring run to pull away. Madison was held scoreless from the final 1:59 of the first quarter on through the first four minutes of the second quarter.
Cameron Mitchell leads the Senators with 12 points, while his twin brother Kevin has 10.
Madison’s Mark Maloney and Josh Foster lead Madison with six points each.

Madison vs. Taft in 6 mins.
Tip-off for the D-III regional semifinal contest between the Madison Mohawks (24-0) and the Cincinnati Taft Senators (22-2) will take place in approx. 6 minutes.
I’ll try to blog updates as fast as I can, but I’m keeping a stat book and following two very quick teams, so I can’t guarantee constant updates.
I’m also Tweeting updates (it’s faster) at middsports.
There’s a large crowd on hand. Madison just came out in white uniforms with black lettering and red trim and the Mohawk fans greeted them with a loud ovation.
Should be fun! as they say, ….. Stay Tuned!!!

Ready 60, Anna 52
Silver Knights senior Joe Graessle scored half of Columbus Bishop Ready’s points in Wednesday’s 60-52 win over the Anna Rockets in the Division III regional semifinal, at Kettering’s Trent Arena.
Derek Billing led the Rockets with a 25-point effort.
Ready led 21-15 at halftime, but a 9-0 run to start the second put them in control.
Anna pulled to within 56-50 with 48 seconds left, but Ready hit 4-of-5 free throws in the final seconds to maintain the lead.
Madison (24-0) vs. Cincinnati Taft (21-2) is coming up next. Game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m. I’ll be blogging from that game as well as Tweeting (middsports) updates. Should be fun!

Lakota East product Dews achieves district first
James Dews’ basketball career at the University of Miami (Fla.) came to a close on Saturday, March 13, when the Hurricanes lost to No. 4 Duke 77-74 in the ACC Tournament semifinals.
Dews, a 2006 Lakota East High graduate, finished his Miami career with 1,090 total points, including a team-high 381 this season.
Dews, a 6-4, 213-pound guard, is the only Lakota product to eclipse the 1,000-point barrier at a Division I college as well as in high school. He ranks second all-time (male or female) in Lakota history with 1,906 points.
Update: Here’s where Dews ranks all-time in Miami history — tied for first in career games (130); fifth in career 3-point attempts (489); tied for sixth in career 3-pointers (170); ninth in career minutes (3,179); 14th in career 3-point percentage (.348); 16th in career starts (82); and 26th in career points (1,090).
