Monroe boys soccer goes 3-for-3 in preseason tourney
The Monroe High School boys soccer team outscored opponents 11-2 en route to going 3-0 at last weekend’s Greeneville Super Scrimmage in Jamestown. Senior Jake Essig scored five goals to lead the Hornets while junior Nick Braden added five goals. Goalkeepers Patrick McIntosh and Chase Collins combined to shutout two of Monroe’s three opponents.
“Overall I thought we played pretty well as far as being able to control the ball and play a possession type of soccer,” Monroe boys soccer coach Michael Oster said.
The Hornets are also scheduled to compete in a preseason tournament July 25-26 in Liberty Twp.

Fairfield football optimistic for ‘09
After two wins combined over the last three seasons, optimism reigns around the Fairfield High football team.
Proof of that is that 96 players in grades 9 through 12 were at this morning’s weight lifting session under the direction of new coach Aaron Fitzstephens.
“Numbers have not been an issue,” Fitzstephens said. “We had 106 kids at camp last week. The kids are hungry. It’s been going great.”
