Lakota West grad Gray dealing with post-surgery complications

(Updated, 12:45 p.m.) 2008 Lakota West graduate and University of Tennessee sophomore Amber Gray is suffering unspecified post-operative complications after undergoing successful shoulder surgery last week.

Her father, Carlton Gray, said that she will be transferred to a Cincinnati area hospital today, July 10, to be closer to her family.

“She’s doing OK,” Gray said. “She’s slowly getting better; getting stronger. She just wants to relax.”

The complications are unrelated to her shoulder.

“We all have been in touch with the family, and obviously our hearts and prayers are with Amber and Carlton and (her mother) Tonya through this time,” West girls basketball coach Andy Fishman said. “She’s certainly expected to come through this like the warrior she is and make a complete recovery.”

Gray was Ohio’s Ms. Basketball and a McDonald’s All-American as a senior at West, and is the Lakota district’s all-time leading scorer.
