Poll: Obama approval matches lowest rating; Romney leads in GOP presidential race

Democratic President Barack Obama’s approval rating among Ohio registered voters is matches his lowest rating while Mitt Romney narrowly leads Rick Perry in the race for the GOP presidential nomination in a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

In the poll, both Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, and Perry, the Texas governor, are neck-and-neck with Obama in 2012 general election match ups.

Overall, 53 percent disapprove Obama’s performance, while 42 percent approve. Fifty one percent say Obama doesn’t deserve reelection, while 43 percent say he does.

Obama’s previous lowest approval was 44 percent on Feb 23, 2010. The current 42 percent is within the margin of error for that number so it “matches” rather than being lower than the February 2010 rating.

Among Republican voters, Romney gets 24 percent to 20 percent for Perry. Former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin is third with 9 percent.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota slips to eighth with just 3 percent.

In the general election matchups, Obama leads Perry, 44-41 percent, too close to call. The president leads Romney, 44-42 percent, also too close to call.

“President Obama’s standing among Ohio voters is back to its lowest ever,” Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Insitute, said in a press release.

In the race for the 2012 GOP U.S. Senate nomination, Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel leads Kevin Coughlin, a former state senator from Cuyahoga Falls, 33-12 percent.

Incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown has big leads over both in potential general election races. Brown leads Mandel, 49-36 percent and Coughlin, 53-32 percent.

Other poll findings:

*There’s a gender gap in the presidential race, with men backing Perry over Obama, 45-41 percent while women prefer the president, 46-37 percent.

*Among independent voters, a key group, Obama and Romney are tied, 39-39 percent, while Obama leads Perry, 38-35 percent.

The poll surveyed 1,301 registered voters from Sept. 20 to Sept. 25, with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

The survey included 423 Republicans with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.8 percent. Live interviewers conducted the surveys over land lines and cell phones.

Obama has become the poster child of socialism for America. What before was seen as just another system of government is now being experienced first hand by many, and the evils and inefficiencies have become painfully apparent. Here is proof that a bad example can be highly instructive. Thank you Mr.President… now exit stage LEFT.

ObamaCare is a total failure. Its Increasing our health insurance Obama sueing Arizona for trying to enforce existing immigration law: stupid Solyndra: Half a Billion dollars down the drain! The red flags were there, but Obama “chose” to ignore them. Evergreen Solar: Millions of Dollars wasted on another failed green energy company. 9.2% Unemployment; 16% Under-employed; Gas Prices over $3.25/gal. And health insurance increasing anywhere from 9% - 30%….

Poll or no poll I know we have to vote that nut out of the White House. He is rambling around the country telling people about his tax raising plans for a jobs bill that will do nothing but put money in his hands to blow. I say no to Obama and no to his jobs bill that he has never put on paper or sent to Congress. No he has never sent a bill to congress! He is wasting millions on flying the Presidential jet around the country to tell us about a bill he doesn’t even have on paper! His buddy, Chicago junior or rather Hoffa Jr. is bad mouthing the tea party and vowing his support for Obama. History tells us Hoffa Sr., then President of Teamsters, handed the mob money to invest in casinos in Vegas. It is quite possible Teamsters money will support Osama. I mean Obama!

Jamie, how can you say Obama has not been given much of a chance? And complain about congress not working with him? He had two full years with huge Democrat majority in both houses of Congress. He had more of a chance to accomplish something than most presidents will ever have, and he wasted his time killing more jobs with “ObamaCare” and the rest of the time was golfing. If you consider that his real goal is to get more Americans on welfare, so that they will forever after vote Democrat, then he has been successful. Otherwise as far as truly helping this country, he is a miserable failure.

Hopefully we will find a good replacement for Obama next year. I can’t entirely fault him as much as the administration he has assembled around him. Save for Hillary, the rest have been lackluster at best. A worst they have been incompetent. He has managed to make Carter look like FDR.

I don’t see this a good news. How can 42% of the people approve of the worst president our Republic has ever had?

As we can’t afford four more years of humiliation at the hands of the current administration, whose plans have all failed and who have no clue as what to do next, I look forward to Nov 2012. When even a slanted poll like this shows the Prez in deep trouble, at least relief is only a bit over a year off now. Can we survive until then?

Obama has not been given much of a chance. His birthplace has been doubted, despite every document he has produced. He has had to work with a congress that is more interested in re-election then the people. I hope the slandering of him stops and that he is re-elected!

Aw, come on Ohio! You really mean to tell me you don’t want 4 more years of record unemployment, lies and Chicago style politics?

I’m a member of a different well-known, national poll. I can tell you it’s been a long time since I have given the President a positive approval. And since it seems he is already in campaign mode, my guess is my opinion won’t change soon. He has an opportunity now to step forward and be a bold leader, but I fear his handlers are telling him to go out and make speeches that accomplish nothing other than making his “base” voters applaud.
