Poll: Sen. Brown re-election chances improve, even against Drew Carey

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s re-election hopes took a turn for the better in a new Public Policy Polling survey released Wednesday, with Brown, a Democrat, leading potential Republican challengers by 15 to 19 points.

The poll even tested comedian and Cleveland native Drew Carey against Brown in a possible 2012 matchup and the Democrat led, 49-34 percent.

PPP, based in Raleigh, N.C., found Brown leading Republican Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, 49-30 percent, after barely edging Taylor, 40-38 in an earlier survey.

Brown also led U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, 49-30 percent in the new poll, a bigger lead than the 43-35 percent edge Brown had earlier.

Republican State Treasurer Josh Mandel, who is emerging as a possible candidate to take on Brown in 2012, also lagged. Brown led, 48-32 percent.

Brown also topped Secretary of State Jon Husted, 49-34 percent.

Against Cleveland-area U.S. Rep. Steve LaTourette, Brown led 48-30 percent.

PPP polled 559 Ohio voters from Thursday, March 10 to Sunday, March 13 and the margin of error was plus or minus 4.1 percent.

Sargey, in America we have to pay for services we receive. For those people who don’t pay, those service charges are passed on to the rest of us who do have insurance. No one is refused care. Health care is not a right under our Constitution.

As a newspaper, you would think DDN would know better than to quote a rag that is affiliated with SEIU and endorsed by the Huffington Post. Polling should be done by an unbiased vendor. PPP is not unbiased. So DDN loses their credibility yet again, and again, and again. dDN never learns that their readers may be more educated and already know PPP can’t be trusted. SEIU? Huffington Post? This poll is almost as funny as Senator Brown, but Senator Brown does make me laugh. He is such a jokster. He can’t be serious, can he?

“The republicans keep giving money to the rich..” Ignorant people, a tax break is NOT giving money. A tax break is when the government forcefully takes less from a person. It is NOT giving anything. Government only takes!

I will vote for Drew Carey in a heartbeat. I hope he runs on the Libertarian ticket. I will even volunteer for the campaign. He would be awesome over Brown and all the Republican idiots that are running.

I don’t understand why there is so much resistance to people who are working for the middle class! The republicans keep giving money to the rich while cutting programs that help the vulnerable and young. Do you think it’s a good idea to cut nutrition programs for pregnant women and infants? “Obamacare” may not be perfect but millions of people will finally get to be covered. What is so wrong with that? The republicans are “winning” because they have limitless money from corporate interests whose goal is to get more and more control at the expense of the middle class.

Senator Brown is for the middle class, public employees, Teachers, Policemen and Firemen. Voted for the Health Care Patient Protection Act that stops Insurance Corporations from canceling coverages regardless of how much it costs for care and pre-existing conditions and many other great benifits. Senator Brown a great American and Ohioan.

Go to this (PPP) polling site and read who their clients (both political and organizational) are…liberal democrats. I took a poll and Brown lost (again), can’t understand it as I polled the working class of Ohio. Sorry nullJane, must have been private sector working class that was apart of my poll.

It’s really hard to take this poll even half serious when it puts Brown against a comedian/game show host.

Keep up the good work Senator Brown…the Republicans can’t stand it because you are doing a good job for the working class people in OH. Look at the problems we are having with the new Gov. Thanks to the republicans in our state.

Public Policy Polling Survery….what a joke!!!! Not only is this a leftist group, they have joined forces with the Service Employee International Union to conduct polling……WHAT A CONFLICT OF INTEREST IN THIS PARTNERSHIP. Did anyone notice that when you look into the specifics of the poll, they go out of their way to say Ohioian’s just love the unions. Give me a Break!!!! But what can you expect from the DDN but this garbage.

From Public Policy Polling website: ” The margin of error is +/-4.1%.OTHER FACTORS, SUCH AS REFUSAL TO BE INTERVIEWED AND WEIGHTING, MAY INTRODUCE ADDITIONAL ERROR THAT IS MORE DIFFICULT TO QUANTIFY.”

The Hill 3/8/2011 “Daily Kos and the Service Employees International Union said they will join forces to conduct issue and campaign polling in key states and races over the next two years. The SEIU/Daily Kos poll will use Public Policy Polling(PPP), a Democratic firm that uses automated polling, rather than live, over the phone survey methods….Daily Kos, like other liberal blogs have taken an increasingly active role in advocacy campaigns and fundraising. The Progressive Change Committee (PCCC), for instance, has used daily Kos as a medium to help raise over $500,000 to support recall efforts against Republican state Senators in Wisconsin.”

There are some good moderate politicians out there (on both sides), but unfortunately Sherrod Brown consistently sides with the most secular progressive forces in the Senate. He was lucky to be swept into office during the “Anyone But Bush” era. He hardly represents the values of middle class Ohioans. He probably couldn’t win a county in Southwest Ohio…but I’m sure the folks up near Cleveland are fond of him.

Brown is Reid’s and Pelosi’s lap dog. He only votes how he’s told to vote. He votes without reading bills. He’s a perfect example of why we need TERM LIMITS.

Wow looks like Fox News has written most of these posts. Matter of fact I just signed a petition for Sen. Brown who wants to limit money given by corporations for electing people like John Kasich who doesnt give a rats @ss about the needy people in our State of Ohio. Go Sen. Brown!! I will vote for you again

Information that is missing from the daily press releases of the Public Policy Poll is who hired them to perform the polling. Poll results that do not include the funding source should not be assumed to be infallible. Why is there no transparency when reporting these polls?

I don’t always agree with Brown, but I doubt there are many voters who agree with any member of Congress 100% of the time. I do believe he cares about our state and the average citizen, not just the fat cats. I will definitely vote for him, especially since the crazies (you know who I mean) don’t like him.

559 Ohioans like Brown. That is not enough to get him re-elected. Brown does NOT care about the people. Brown does not care about “working people”. For all of the uninformed. “Working People” are taxpayers, which pay Brown’s salary, which Brown thumbs his nose at and spits on!

Mr. Brown is a fighter for the working if Ohio becomes a more ignorant state the people deserve what’s coming to them. Is Ohio and other states going to relize the people we elected are just sitting back and causing more pain to the day to day workers. Check history and pay attention to who is supporting you. Wise up America!

Sherrod Brown is the best Senator for Ohio in quite some time. Don’t let the conservative reactionaries fool you. This man truly cares about the middle class and working people. He doesn’t fight for corporations and the uber wealthy, which is why the right wing hates him so much. Keep up the good work Senator!

You can’t trust the polls. Brown is the most radical left wing rep they have. I hope he is voted out. He and his Obama team are ruining our country. Obama’s AG is racist and won’t prosecute the Black Panthers for interfering with the very election that got Obama elected. Now AG Holder is interfering with local police issues. I hope this poll is wrong. Brown needs to be kicked out on his a-hole.

Brown is one of the democrats who jammed Obamacare down our throats. He needs to go. (He wasn’t up for re-election last time.) Remember in November. Recall them (senators) all.
