Foodbanks get $1.2 million in cash and trucks
The Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks received $1.2 million from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation in cash grants and four new refrigerated food delivery trucks.
The grants and trucks will help the association and its network of 12 food banks across the state. The food banks distribute 135 million pounds of food to more than 3,000 member charities, including food pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens.
A recent report showed 14.8 percent of Ohio households lack consistent access to nutritious food and 1.9 million Ohioans turned to food pantries for help last year.
“These numbers demonstrate that Ohio is in the midst of a serious hunger crisis,” said Lisa Hamler-Fugitt of the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks.

TweetHouse Democrats stick with Budish as leader
House Democrats are sticking with Rep. Armond Budish, D-Beachwood, as their leader as they head into minority status in January.
Democrats Wednesday picked Budish, now House Speaker, as Minority Leader. The House Democratic Caucus also chose Rep. Matt Szollosi, D-Toledo, as Assistant Minority Leader.
Rep. Tracy Heard, D-Columbus, was elected Minority Whip and Rep. Debbie Phillips, D-Athens, was chosen Assistant Minority Whip.
Democrats now hold a 53-46 House majority. Republicans will control the House next year, 58-41 or 59-40, depending on the final outcome of at least two closely contested elections.
