Kasich names Rep. Zehringer as director of agriculture
Gov.-elect John Kasich on Tuesday named state Rep. Jim Zehringer, R-Fort Recovery, as director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture in the new Kasich administration.
“He’s a farmer, he’s a legislator and, most importantly, he has a connection to all of small town Ohio,” Republican Kasich said in a press release.
Kasich said Zehringer, 58, will work with universities to “figure out how to open up the research and development.”
Zehringer is the former owner and operator of the Meiring Poultry and Fish Farm and also is a former Mercer County Commissioner.
Zehringer said that he will be part of the team that leads to the resurgence of Ohio agriculture.
“Instead of losing jobs and losing agricultural jobs and farms, we’re going to turn that around,” said Zehringer.
Kasich made the announcement in Celina in Zehringer’s home county.
He currently represents the 77th Ohio House District, which includes Mercer and Preble counties as well as parts of Darke County.
