Poll: Ohio voters don’t want Boehner for House Speaker

They wouldn’t actually get to vote on it, but Ohio likely voters don’t think much of the idea of U.S. Rep. John Boehner, R-West Chester, becoming Speaker of the U.S. House if Republicans win control of the House in the Nov. 2 election, according to a poll released on Friday, Sept. 3.

The poll from Public Policy Polling of Raleigh, N.C. found that just 28 percent of Boehner’s home state voters want him to become Speaker if the GOP takes over the House, with 44 percent preferring “someone else.”

Republican voters back Boehner for Speaker, but just by a 54-15 spread. Democrats, who don’t want a Republican majority to start with, oppose Boehner, 73-6 percent, while independents oppose him, 41-22 percent.

Boehner currently is House Minority Leader and is expected to be chosen Speaker if Republicans take over the House from the Democrats as several analysts now are predicting.

The poll also found that Republicans lead Democrats, 47-41 percent on a generic ballot for U.S. House seats.

However, just 29 percent of Ohio voters approve of the direction of the GOP while 55 percent disapprove.

That suggests that the generic preference for the GOP is a vote for change, not affirmation of GOP policies or a mandate, an analysis of the poll said.

The poll was taken by automated phone calls from Friday, Aug. 27 to Sunday, Aug. 29 with 474 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent

No matter what people say about Boehner he is a thousand times better then Pelosi. Like Pelosi cares one bit about her constituents or America. Give Boehner a chance he may suuprise you. For those saying its only been 2 years give poor Obama a break, Obama is the one who said he had the plan to fix the economy and his plan has failed. Time for the real solution instead of handing out my hard earned money to the unions who haven’t created a single net job. The only way to fix the economy is to get business confident their taxes will not go up. Why should a business hire someone when they all know Obama is waiting until after the election to raise income taxes on the middleclass and on small business. I like how obama is now lowering taxes on small business even after he said the republician’s idea of lowering taxes to create jobs will not work. Remember Obama’s plan is another short term one year plan which will not work.

You must not live in Boehner’s district. Boehner does absolutely nothing for the elected he was elected to serve. Except for his exclusive West Chester gated community, Boehner never even comes to the district. He has an office in my town. He has not been there for ten years, if ever. I get his newsletter, which gives dates and places for his meetings with constituents, but these meeting are never with Boehner, they are with “staff.” Boehner is the one out of touch. He’s completely out of touch with his constituents. We need to vote him out!!!

Hey, R U kidding me, I am a “hardworking, Godfearing, decent moral, tax paying American” liberal (by your standards)who lives in Boehner’s district. I have never heard a good word about Boehner from anyone in the district in my church, my neighborhood, or work. With so much corporate money behind Boehner, there has not been much of an choice until now. Justin Coussoule is a West Point grad, a former Amty captain who served for over 5 yrs. (Boehner served less than 2 mos. in the Navy), and a small business owner who is smart and articulate. He has great specific ideas about serving the district and putting his constituents to work. Boehner doesn’t care about jobs, the deficit, or the district. He just cares about golf and power and serving the wealthy corporations that finance him. Vote for Coussoule!

Guess what you liberal morons, Boehner has done more with his time in office than Tony Hall did, Sherrod Brown does, or shirless Lee Fisher ever could. While I’m comparing a House member to Senators (and most of you lib morons probably wouldn’t have picked up on that), you have no idea what Boehner does. You libs are so freaking whacked, that I don’t even know where to begin to explain everything to you. Maybe you’ll get a govt program to help you understand “limited government” or “free markets” or the original intent of the framers of the Constitution. Keep crying and complaining, come January my motto will be “Speaker Boehner, Deal With It”

And once again, the DDN neglects to run the disclaimer that PPP (who did the poll) is a Dem polling firm (and extremely liberal). Perhaps they also should have noted that the exact same poll also found that Ohioans, by a margin of 50%-42%, also said they would rather have George W. Bush as President rather than Obama. But, this is the DDN - so they had to single out the only anti-GOP number from the poll (the other numbers found all Dems losing, Strickland had the worst approval rating of any governor in the country, Ohioans believe country is on the wrong track, Obama’s approval numbers are the lowest of all “swing state” etc). Good job DDN!

The reason that Dems are disappointed in the Health Care Reform bill is that it didn’t offer a Public Option. The reasons Ohioan’s don’t want Boehner as Speaker include among many others already mentioned, his own Party considers him the laziest man in Congress. And it shows in his record. If it weren’t for the creative gerrymandering of District 8, he couldn’t win a Primary.

Try as you will Boehnerisms, but this is about the GOP vs. Democrats and you know it. Your problem and Dems is that running on what they’ve done is exactly why they run behind now. It’s become so bad for them that even lead Democratic legislators who championed ObamaCare are now saying they’ll redo it if reelected. It’s also why Obama isn’t welcomed at most Dem rallies too. But you know it as that’s why you so frequently go after Boehner instead of touting what your party will do. People easily see through it.

Mr. Boehner’s only noteworthy accomplishment in Congress was when he stood on the floor of the House and handed out checks from the tobacco company Brown and Williamson to his fellow members of Congress. Brown and Williamson is now a part of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. Both of these companies have been convicted of federal racketeering charges. So you can say that the probable Speaker of the House will be a person who handed out money to members of Congress from convicted racketeers. This, of course, is what rightwing Republicans mean when they talk about reform. They want little government for the little people and Big Government for Big Tobacco and all other forms of Big Business.

Boehner goes back to congress year after year because he doesn’t support killing babies, he doesn’t encourage govt to promote irresposibility, he beleives in indiviidual opportunity and a limited role for federal govt. I’m glad he doesn’t waste federal $$ for pork programs in my district. Your parties spending is good no matter the destruction it is causing our country. I said earlier that I have my doubts about Boehner, but I know this, Ms. Pelosi is a clear and present danger to this country. So yes, I will throw barbs at the Democrats as well as liberal Republicans, at anyone for that matter who thinks that we are on the right path and continues this insanity. We aren’t. So, the only positive from Boehner is actually a negative…he works to block government money from entering SW Ohio, while not working to prevent it from entering districts where he needs that District’s Congressman’s vote in order to be Speaker. Maybe you can address the large Federal loans that were approved for Boehner’s Wetherington golf buddies (hint: one doctor and one gas station developer) while you are discussing the way he protects our tax dollars.

Sure I will take this current economy over Bush’s any day. 9.6% unemployment versus 5.5%, a fabulous recovery summer where we lost even more jobs. An unsteady stock market, a devaluation of the dollar. I’m also looking forward to mandated health insurance and the penalties (tax) I will pay when I can’t afford it, along with Iran going nuclear, turning our back on old allies while coddling the dictators around the world. Then there is the trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see. And then there is card check, Cap (tax) and trade, the VAT tax, immigration, amnesty, suing states for enforcing existing federal law regarding immigration. The various czars excite me as well. I especially like the ones who are avowed socialists. Give me the blaming others too for mistakes and incompetence. I mean why be responsible when you can pass the buck? Let’s also build a big mosque right next to Ground Zero, forget those who lost loved ones for the sake of political correctness. Heck let’s try terrorist’s in civilian courts too. And why bring opposition parties idea’s to the floor? When there is the good of the common folks at stake, why look for compromise when you have an utopian agenda to pursue? And all these polls concerning what we the people think? We really don’t know any better and should trust the enlightened ones for direction. Pitiful, pathetic. Nope, nothing radical there is there? Corps were enjoying record profits when CEOs with bonuses tied to short-term profit plus golden parachutes fired, downsized, and took the money and ran. Common knowledge. I figured out why Boehner is opposed to healthcare reform — there’s a 10% tax on indoor tanning! http://money.cnn.com/2010/03/24/news/economy/tanning_tax/. That’s one wanker that can smoke/tan/hunt with Cheney anytime he wants! People, the Democratic (bleeding heart) party has given you labor laws, a forty-hour work week, that social security check grandma gets, and a general freedom from being institutionalized (like orphanages). That is the real alternative to “welfare” — orphanages. Wow, give yourselves a pat on the back for that lousy $300 tax refund Bush paid you to vote for him. Magic beans. It only cost you your job, house, and a trillion-dollar debt. Wow, remember when Wall Street collapsed? Good times. Remember when your insurance company could refuse to cover you whenever it wanted? Good times. Obama has not done anything radical whatsoever. Unless you consider increasing economic stability a radical idea. You got more from 18 months of Obama, than 8 years of Bush. He has been working his butt off for middle of the road reform. And now he’s attempting peace in the Middle East. What a slouch. You can vote for the bankers to have more yachts, or you can vote for the most basic of living wages and conditions. Not a tough decision.

I am amazed at the number of comments that slam Boehner with no basis in FACT. There definitely is an ideological divide in this country. One is rooted in altruism with a huge lack of respect for human nature. The other accepts human nature for what it is and never tries to change it, but rather understands that life is full of choices and tradeoffs. There are no perfect solutions to life’s problems and as such, the left would have you believe that there is and they alway try to fix everything with legislation. Notice I have been using left and right, not democrat or republican. This is because some republicans are just that in name only, when in reality they are as liberal as Pelosi or Reid. You know who they are as they always vote with the democrats. Lastly, we the people have voted these clowns in, thus we get what we deserve. November cannot come fast enough—Washington DC needs a very cathartic enema. I am still wondering what October surprise is awaiting the American people in order for the left to steal this year’s elections.

One only has to read the various posts to see how hopelessly we as a nation are so hopelessly divided along ideological lines. Some believe anything they read, a growing number are more willing to give up their freedoms to have a false “security” provided by an ever growing government that eagerly takes those very freedoms away in the quest for power. They blindly follow party talking points that insult the intelligence of people who take the time to be informed. Common sense long ago went out the door. We did it to ourselves, we have the government we deserve. All we can do now is to try and take our government back where it was intended by the framers to be. To continue on the present course is lunacy. The bigger picture to me is that we cannot continue with the spending, we cannot continue with the idea that government can create jobs, can spend our money more wisely. We cannot continue to look for the latest “handout”. One only has to look at the stimulus spending or the health care bill to see that. We have to somehow break the entitlement mentality that prevails in this country. Wealth redistribution does not work people, pretty soon you run out of other people’s money. Can Boehner take the reins and start leading us back? I have my doubts, but I certainly have no doubt that a Pelosi lead House will only continue down the road to ruin following the utopian vision of the incompetent man residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. now. If we continue along our present course we don’t deserve anything better.

The DDN and the rest of the Democrats are shaking in their boots. The upcoming election is going to be a landslide against out of control spending and entitlements. Thanks to the internet people are better informed and can verify data instead of relying on the media and their slanted opinions. If Democrat canidates werent so afraid they would put their party affiliation on their ads and signs.

I wasn’t asked to participate in this poll. I’d be happy to have Boehner as Speaker of the House but, if they have the opportunity to choose, they need to pick the guy/gal they want and it will be fine by me.

If nothing more than a freeze on out of control spending, then that alone is a good start !! Mom always said MONEY does not grow on trees, but is spit out of a government printer. The bill will come DUE !! When you are in a deep hole the first thing is to stop digging. Where this pole came from is not in keeping with the people I have been talking to. But leave it to the DDN to find something this lopsided. How about reporting NEWS and not trying to MAKE it.

Hey John: Who needs entitlements when you back spending a trillion on a war started under false pretenses? The bronzed idiot has no business being in government. He should open a tanning salon!

It’s true that Boehner hasn’t allowed any ear marks for our district, thereby losing us jobs and needed services. He has done plenty for his donors-big corporations, big banks, and Wall St. He has done nothing for his constituents. I’ve lived in his district the entire time Boehner has been in Congress. He never comes to the district except his gated golf community in West Chester. John Boehner does not represent the people district. We need someone is running to represent US, not the rich. Elect Justin Coussoule.

Boehner had no problem with Bush spending money on wars! These wars are bankrupting America. Spend the money from these wars on America, not foreign countries!

I would like to know more about Public Policy Polling from North Carolina. Are they backed by a Democrat organization? Of course dems don’t want John Boehner for Speaker! I don’t buy into this poll. I know many people that support John Boehner for Congress and for Speaker. That Nancy Pelosi looked like she escaped from a mental ward the day they passed the healthcare bill. Out on the steps with her dem clowns, she was pathetic. The libs are going to verbalize all they want. People are not happy with Obama and his big govt. takeover!

Once again the left leaning media tries to spin the news in their direction. They will try any underhanded tactic to make conservatives seem like the bad guy. But…Americans are so angry at Obama and democrats they will kick them out of office in November.

Yes I can… He hasn’t proposed, participated in, been associated with, or taken any earmarks, saving you and I both as taxpayers some of our hard earned money. There is no such thing as a free lunch despite what the entitlement crowd will tell you.

Can anyone, Republican, Independent or Democrat name one positive thing Boehner has done as our Congressman for SW Ohio? Has anyone even seen Boehner in SW Ohio trying to do anything positive?
