Strickland snipes at Kasich on tax issue, “Wall Street” connection
Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland used a visit to Dayton on Wednesday, Aug. 25, to snipe at Republican John Kasich’s stand on Ohio’s tax system.
“I reject the assessment that has been made by my opponent that Ohio has a non-competitive tax system,” Strickland said at a press conference at the IUE-CWA Service Center where dislocated workers are being trained for advanced manufacturing jobs.
“I believe quite frankly….candidly that he spent so much time on Wall Street that he hasn’t paid attention to what we’ve done in Ohio,” Strickland said.
His comments came just days after Kasich launched a statewide TV ad in which he said Ohio is “one of the highest tax states in the country.”
Strickland said that the 2005 overhaul of the state’s tax system, backed by former Republican Gov. Bob Taft and a Republican-controlled legislature, has given Ohio “a very competitive tax structure for business investment.”
Rob Nichols, Kasich’s spokesman, responded to Strickland in an e-mail:
“He should knock on the door of any small business in Dayton and ask them if they think their taxes are too high—they will agree with the Tax Foundation which found that Ohioans shoulder the 7th highest tax burden in the nation.”
While the Tax Foundation ranks Ohio 7th, the Federation of Tax Administrators puts Ohio in the middle of the pack, 25th in per capita state and local tax collections.
Kasich, a former Columbus-area U.S. House member, was a managing director for Lehman Brothers after leaving Congress.

I’m sure Kasich will be ready with some good old-fashioned tax cuts when he is elected. Then we’ll see who can teabag best, and I’m sure the corporations will trickle down on you lower classes like rain!

Big Ross - Did you have a point, little boy? Maybe Georgia offered something Dayton couldn’t offer - lower taxes! Maybe NCR begged Ohio and Dayton to lower taxes, and the democrats told them to take a hike - which they did. Maybe people in Ohio realize they are in Ohio, and maybe Buckeyes need to wake up and take some responsibility for their own lives. Maybe we should stop blaming politicians, who are only doing what politicians do. You, on the other hand, can succeed regardless of what they do. Learn how to run a business. Learn how to be more efficient. Learn how to eat better. Learn how to succeed! If you continue to rely on the government for everything, you will never learn how to rely on yourself. People, the government is broke! Benefits will be cut, and people will be forced to rely on themselves. Don’t be caught in that situation without being prepared.

HAVENT HEARD A WORD ABOUT FROM LOCAL REPUBLICANS! HEY KASICH WHY DONT YOU JUST STEAL SOME JOBS FROM REPUBLICAN DISTRICTS DOWN SOUTH (HOW ABOUT FEDEX IN MEMPHIS) AND LEAVE THE TAX BASE ALONE HERE IN OHIO!!!! I AM SICK AND TIRED OF OHIOANS ACTING LIKE WE ARE IN THE DEEP SOUTH! THIS AINT ARKANSAS! THIS IS OHIO! WE HAVE BIG CITIES AND RURAL AREAS. QUIT ACTING AS IF OHIO IS ALABAMA BECAUSE ITS NOT!!!

STrickland thinks he can fake it like Obama did to get elected.========Ted, Ohio elected you the first time because you weren’t the Republican candidate, whatever his name was. He did not come across as a quality governor candidate. You didn’t either. But you played the violin and the preacher mode and got enough votes. ——————This time people won’t make the same mistake twice.

Ted, Ted, Ted, Voters are looking for how you or Kasich will solve impending state budget deficits. Nothing more, nothing less. Give voters a message, or a vision, or something. This is what leaders do.
