Casinos take early lead

Early results posted by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner on Tuesday, Nov. 3, showed the plan to put casinos in four Ohio cities leading, 68-32 percent statewide.

The results were posted just after polls closed at 7:30 p.m. and are believed to be from absentee ballots, according to Brunner’s office.

Issue 3 calls for casinos in Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo and Cleveland.

The casino operators got a sweet deal. They will buy the gaming license for next to nothing (50 million), and the state only gets 33% of the gross. Ohio could have gotten a better deal, but this is what happens when the state legislature fails to take action. Someone with funding can take ANYTHING straight to the ballot and the Ohio constitution. Now we wait for the court challenge to find out once and for all… is charitable gaming at churches now illegal???

Wow, Amanda, if we’re all idiots- what are you? It’s called punctuation, please use it. What does the smoking ban or a double cheeseburger have to do with Issue 3?

Amanda - the issue with casinos first and foremost is that they are localized to specific areas. The economic impact is only localized to those specific areas. If you live in Youngstown I don’t think you are going to commute to work at a casino in Toledo or Columbus. Secondly, it shouldn’t be an amendment to the constitution. Thirdly, it becomes a monopoly.

Wow Amanda, calling people that don`t support what you support retarded and idiotic. Why do you have to post the same thing 3 times? Get a life! Thinking Casinos will help our economy is like thinking a dirty band aid will stop the bleeding.

Problem is, most of those jobs will only be around long enough to get things built and then their gone. what about the mom and pops businesses that will go out of business or the fact that ohio is so financially strung out that people might not really pump that much money into the casinos to see a decent return… kickbacks from the lottery to schools never really worked, what makes people think casinos will be any different?

I’d say the big difference between this years issue and last years issue was this year there were 4 casinos and last year there was only one. More people to benefit from the jobs and shorter drives for everyone.

I just love that everyone is for casinos now that FOP is backing it and the economy has hit the dumps in ohio. Really?, thank you FOP for supporting it after you get a cutback but not before… do you still think it will increase crime in those areas or was that all a load of bull? And all you people not in columbus, cincy, toledo, and cleveland realize the proposed 34000 jobs will not be coming your way, right?

If 68% voted yes for issue 3 then it is good for the casino business. What a high percentage of ignorant and gullible people that might so easily part with their money.
