Poll: Politics behind Nobel awards
A new poll shows that following President Barack Obama’s win on Friday, Oct. 9, Americans are increasingly likely to believe politics are behind the awarding of the international Nobel Prizes.
Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey, released on Sunday, Oct. 11, found that 58 percent of American adults believe that politics plays a role in the awarding of Nobel Prizes, an 18 point jump from 40 percent a year ago.
The poll was taken on Friday, Oct. 9-Saturday, Oct. 10 with 1,000 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Alice: After Gores award it is a political farce so, no I do not pay attention to it anymore. If people get it that DESERVE IT I would pay more attention.Alfred Nobel did not intend for the award for things people might do,but for what they had done.Did the Dali-Lama ever get it? How about Mother Teresa? It comes from a socialist country & they awarded it to a socialist. This is in no way a racist thing because I don’t like him.I don’t like socialists

Midsteve: There’s nothing wrong with disliking with Obama’s agenda but to care so much about the man getting a prize whether he deserved it or not????? Two other Americans were recently awarded Nobel prizes too. Can you name them? Did they deserve it? I thought it was stupid to award this to Obama, but I don’t care anymore about him getting it than I do anyone else. What motivates you and anyone else to exert so much energy over this/him? This and the Olympics has nothing to do with policy, so one can’t help but conclude that your anger is motivated by something else than just policy.

The noble peace was given to Obama because Carter and Mondale said he was a victim of racism. Lets give him a award he does not deserve. He has had a tough life.

If the peace Prize was awarded as a way of influencing President Obama’s future actions, then it should be rejected by the President. The $1.4 million is a large sum to be given as a way to influence his actions. Reject it Mr. Obama and prove you are not as corrupt as your fellow Chicagoans.

Is it true that the Nobel prize for economics went to Suze Orman for the good advise she gives on Oprah?

So politics has never been a factor in awarding the Peace Prize??? On what planet have these people been living? There is a political slant virtually every time it is given. That is almost a standard feature of the prize. Up to this point no one here has ever cared. But this time it just happened to be given to an American that is despised and hated by a small but very vocal and radical fringe who have captured the imagination and attention of our mainstream media with their vitriol. Ergo, the fascination that suddenly developed overnight in this country to the whole Nobel process. If it wasn’t this, it would be some other inconsequential reason. It’s all about the “outrage”. Get a life, people. What are your priorities, anyway? The economy and job situation in this country is swirling down the proverbial toilet and some of you are getting all worked up over this.
