Kasich blasts Strickand as “caretaker”; enters race for governor
WESTERVILLE - Blasting incumbent Democrat Ted Strickland as a “caretaker” who held out a “tin cup” for help from Washington, D.C., Republican John Kasich on Monday, June 1, launched his campaign for governor with a pledge to, over time, wipe out Ohio’s income tax.
Kasich, 57, a former U.S. House member for 18 years, drew loud applause from a crowd his aides estimated at about 2,000. They gathered outside the Everal Barn and Homestead in the first rally of his campaign.
Democrats earlier Monday already started trashing Kasich as a tool of Wall Street. He served as a managing director of Lehman Brothers, the investment banking firm that went bankrupt in 2008, after leaving Congress.
“Ohio does not need a governor from Wall Street,” said Chris Redfern, Ohio Democratic chairman.
Ohio, however, needs Kasich, said Braden Black of Vandalia, CEO of Skilled Trade, a company that provides skilled trade workers to companies. He had never met Kasich but attended the rally and liked the speech.
“It was very good,” said Black.
State Sen. Kevin Coughlin, R-Cuyahoga Falls, also is seeking the GOP nomination for governor.

His contract with Faux News must be ending. Republicans led this state to its current mess, and now they want another chance? Don’t think so. Show me that you have NEW ideas, and I will listen to what you have to say. Until then, the best advice I can give you is to leave. You are not wanted here.By Reality

ANGRY BUCKEYE, what kind of math do you use? 2-1/2 years is NOT 3 years! It will take Strickland longer than 4 years to fix the mess Bob Taft left this state in!By Betty Cleveland

As a former Buckeye and OSU graduate, I will write to all my friends and relatives in Ohio to encourage them to support John Kasich for governor as well as Rob Portman for the U.S.Senate, two fine young men with experience and integrity. My husband, John, and I have met both of these great former public servants who can once again elevate the great state of Ohio to its former leadership position in our country.By Frank

Nah - it’s just more Republican rhetoric about cutting taxes. If they do cut taxes, they outspend the so-called tax and spend Liberals. He’s like Rush…a bag of wind. They have two or three tricks - promise to cut taxes and use Liberal like it’s a swear word… An old dog with no new tricks.By Dave

Eliminating the state income tax would be great. Does he have a plan to make this occur, or just a stirring speach?By Angry Buckeye

Didn’t Strickland promise to fix school funding? He’s had 3 years to do so and nothing has been done. Property owners bear the brunt of the task and that is unfair.By GUSS
