Did you know that ‘Glee’ is set in Lima?

I had overheard the characters in ‘Glee’ mention that they lived in Ohio but until the latest episode on Wednesday, Sept. 23, I wasn’t sure where exactly.

Last night one of the characters mentioned they were in western Ohio. I turned to Zack and said “Did you hear that? They are in western Ohio.” Zack replied, “But we’re in western Ohio.”

As the episode continues, characters started using the phrase “Lima Loser” and I realized the show is set in Lima. A fictional high school in Lima, but Lima none-the-less.

The phrase “Lima Loser” was being used in the show to describe people who live their entire life in Lima. I checked Google to see if that phrase was something people in Lima actually say but all I could find was a Facebook page which seems to have been created around Sept. 17. The page appears to be the creation of a local radio station.

‘Glee’ isn’t the first TV show set in Ohio, and it’s surely not the last.

Other notable TV series set in Ohio include:

  • ‘3rd Rock from the Sun’ was set in the fictional city of Rutherford, Ohio
  • ‘The Drew Carey Show’ was set in Cleveland, Ohio, Drew Carey’s hometown
  • ‘Ed’ was set in the fictional town of Stuckeyville, Ohio
  • ‘Family Ties’ was set in suburban Columbus, Ohio
  • ‘WKRP in Cincinnati’ but I am not sure where that show was set

If you haven’t been watching ‘Glee’ you should give it a shot. It is definitely not for everyone but there is a lot of laughs and a lot of music, new and old.

And ‘Glee’ is not just about a high school glee club, there’s football too:

‘Glee’ airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on FOX.

Actually, “Leave it to Beaver” is not set in any state. The Beave was actually on Oprah earlier this week where she asked him what state Mayfield was in and he said there wasn’t one. It is like Sprigfield on “The Simpsons”. http://www.leaveittobeaver.org/faq.htm#Where%20was%20Mayfield%20located?

The TBS show is called “10 Items or Less” and is actually, according to Wikipedia, set in Dayton, Ohio. I didn’t mention it because it’s not that well known. I just wanted to list the most notable shows. I think the show is still on so maybe it will get more popular with time, but from what I’ve seen it didn’t look very entertaining. And on TBS I don’t know how a show can survive if it isn’t “Seinfeld” or “Sex and the City”.

The actors in this show are all very talented and if indeed they are actually singing their songs, these kids are even more talented! But the show is STUPID! The producers of this are the same that gave us “Nip Tuck”, which was a lowdown, lousy story-line production that belonged on “Pornamax”! These guys are stuck for comedy between real talent and stupid stuff that is not realistic. Show Choir is a big deal around the midwest and to make lite and imbecilic of what these choral/vocal directors and participants go thru is just plain…DUMB!

WKRP was videotaped in L.A. but Cincinnati was thebackdrop for the series. WKRP was supposedly a 5,000 watt station at 1530 AM..the frequency of WCKY.

To the author of this blog entry - You didn’t mention the show set in Dayton, even though this is the DAYTON Daily News, because “you didn’t think it was that well known”? Well, I guess I forgot this is the DDN, after all.

There was a show about UFO hunters in the Air Force many years ago and the UFO hunters were at Wright Patt. There was a sit-com starring Madeline Kahn based on Erma Bombecks writings that was also set in Dayton.

“Leave It To Beaver” could not have been in Ohio. Beaver and Wally and Eddie all make references to the ocean and going surfing. You don’t surf in Lake Erie. So Mayfield must be near an ocean.
