The second annual Christmas on the Plaza will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 13 in Monroe. Activities will be on Church Street, off Main Street and the parking lot of the city building.
Organizers say parking will be available at the Monroe City Park and the old Monroe High School. Craft and food booths and free photos with Santa will be available in the council chambers of the city building. Toys for Tots will be on hand accepting donations.
Carriage tours to four areas in Monroe will also be provided. Rides begin at the city building on Main Street, visit the city park (public service organization will hand out information), Monroe First Church of God’s Bethlehem Village from 5 to 8 p.m., Monroe’s 1910 Museum and then return to the city building.
Entertainment will take place on the stage on Church Street. For more information go online to www.christmasinmonroe.com.

Members of the Lemon Monroe class of 1960 worked to recreate history by collecting photos of each student in their class for a collage to display at Monroe High School. They had to track down every person to be included. Evidentally, the class didn’t have its own because it was a year that students used various photographers and nobody planned to put the photo exhibit together. Click here for the fuller story and to see the final composite.
