School resource officer may return
Franklin City Schools may have a school resource officer again next year.
The city had to pull the officer from the school amid budget constraints during the current school year.
The Board of Education will hear a first reading about a grant to partially pay for the officer during their meeting at 6 p.m. today, May 27.
The district would pay $12,500 a year for the officer, with the rest of the cost covered by a grant for the next four years beginning in September.
Board President Chris Sizemore said the board saw value in having an officer at the school, but couldn’t afford to cover the entire cost.
With the grant, “We would have the school resource officer at the school, which we think is a better situation as far as student safety and resolving issues at the school.”
