Franklin High School to get a new sign
Franklin High School will soon be getting an upgrade with a new sign that will be able to display pictures and messages.
The Board of Education approved purchasing a sign at their Monday meeting. The sign will cost $24,900 under a special deal that is only good through mid-May. Donations from previous graduating classes will cover $12,000 of the cost.
Business manager Frank Chapman told the board the sign would normally cost more than $40,000, but board members didn’t seem convinced to accept the deal until they heard about the donation from past classes.
The “state of the art” sign, as Chapman described it, will allow the principal to change the display only from his office. It will say “Franklin City Schools” above the screen, in case the high school should ever be used for another purpose in the future.
The board may look at adding bricks on both sides of the sign.
What do you think? Does the high school need a new sign?

That was addressed during the Monday meeting. The high school principal said he’d like the sign to be placed closer to the road so it can be better seen. Chapman said he will look into whether the city is planning to widen the road at any time in the future and what the restrictions are, but it seemed everyone at the meeting agreed the sign needs to be more visible.

Business manager Frank Chapman, who just recently joined the district, said he’ll be looking into whether any money is available from insurance. He also said even without insurance money, the district will be moving forward with purchasing the sign.

Chapman says Franklin did receive a small amount of money for damage to the sign outside the high school. Insurance money was given to the district in one lump sum for all damages, he said.
