Franklin to approve new phone system
The Franklin Board of Education is set to approve a contact for a new phone system at their meeting 6 p.m. meeting today, March 9.
The new Voice Over Internet system is used by several school districts in the area and, for Franklin, it will ensure every classroom had a phone line.
“It’s the newest technology,” said board President Chris Sizemore. “Our phone system is getting to the point where it’s aged, and it’s costing us several thousand dollars a year in maintaining it.”
Currently, not every Franklin teacher has a phone in the classroom, but there is an intercom system.
Sizemore said the district will pay upfront for the hardware but will be reimbursed though the state for some of the cost. He said the system will be ready for next school year.
The board will also be talking with John Lazares and Tom Isaacs from the Warren County Educational Service Center about the Laura Farrell building. The Warren County ESC has a five-year contract to use the building.
Sizemore said they’ll be discussing how to best maintain the building and who should do any needed repairs.
The board will also finalize its plans for a community survey they plan to post on the district’s Web site some time in the near future. The survey will be aimed at gauging how the community feels about the school system and what the district could be doing better.
