Schools to go late in June

Like other local districts, Carlisle Local Schools has closed more than the allowed five days for snow and the September windstorm. Here’s a note from Carlisle Superintendent Mike Griffith on when the district will make up days….

We have certainly had an interesting year of weather. At no time did I ever anticipate having a hurricane in Carlisle. At this point in the year, we have closed school eight times for weather conditions. The State of Ohio will grant five calamity days during the school year and we will need to make up the rest.

While all of us are hoping the legislature will grant extra days this year, everything I have heard from Columbus is contrary to that. Any extra days must be approved by the state legislature, and Governor Strickland is in favor of adding school days to the calendar. I’ll let you know as I receive more information.

With that said, the make up days for Carlisle Schools are June 8th, 9th and 10th.
