Board turns down legal fund
The Franklin Board of Education voted against joining a special legal fund, after being turned down for assistance themselves last school year.
The board voted down a recommendation to join the Ohio School Boards Association Legal Assistance Fund for 2009. Joining would have cost $250.
Franklin had applied for assistance with money they have spent on the fight to keep 1,600 acres of land that Middletown City Schools is attempting to have transferred into the Middletown school district.
Board members said during their meeting Monday that they were told the issue didn’t affect schools statewide and therefore wasn’t eligible for assistance.
Superintendent Arnol Elam said he has never used the fund in the 10 years he’s been a superintendent and the only other thing he receives from being a part of the fund are briefs on statewide legal issues, which he also receives from the district’s lawyers.
