District won’t pursue levy
Today is the deadline for Carlisle to file to have an operating levy appear on the November 2008 ballot.
The district will not be pursuing a November attempt for the levy, which is “inevitable,” said Superintendent Mike Griffith.
“We are already working hard to operate efficiently,” Griffith said. “We’re really trying to work hard to show them (our community) we’re being as careful with the money they’ve entrusted us as we possibly can.”
The district has already outlined $919,000 in cuts for the upcoming school year, which starts Aug. 27. That means there won’t be any additional cuts this year, but without more money, cuts will come in the following school year, the district has said.
Griffith said he wants to gauge the effects of some changes in the district - like allowing open enrollment at all grade levels and the plan to create a special program to bring back students (and funding) leaving for charter schools.
As for the levy, Griffith said he does not know when the district will pursue, but said, “We’ll ask for it when we have to.”
