Big meeting in Madison tonight
The agenda for tonight’s Madison school board meeting is packed with several personnel-related issues.
Madison residents have been speculating for weeks that long-time Athletic Director Jeff Smith wouldn’t be the A.D.next school year. If the board approves the personnel agenda, Smith would return to the classroom full time next year. Superintendent Chris Cline said the move is financially-driven, as most of the personnel changes on tonight’s agenda are.
Madison’s athletic director position is a supplemental contract, so its basically additional duties and compensation for those duties awarded to an employee in addition to their regular work. Madison will not award the A.D. supplemental contract this year and those duties will be assigned — it’s not clear how this is going to happen yet.
With Smith back in the classroom full-time as a physical education teacher, the district will have too many gym teachers. Board members will vote tonight to suspend the teaching contract of Holly McElwain, primary school physical education teacher, due to a reduction in force because of financial conditions in the district.
More after the jump.
The board will vote tonight to terminate the employment of Madison Intermediate School Custodian Gregory Perry. Cline declined to disclose the reason for the termination (I should have more on this soon).
The board will also vote to eliminate a position for the MIS media center aide and to not renew the contract for Joanne Wagner, the aide in that position.
The board will also vote to give all administrators, with the exception of Cline and Treasurer Mark Zimov, a 2 percent salary increase. Teachers and support staff received the same increase.
