City moves to terminate Section 8 contract
After what the city calls “numerous problems” with Consoc Housing Consultants over the span of almost 15 years, City Council will consider a resolution to terminate the company’s contract as administrator of its Section 8 voucher program.
Mayor Larry Mulligan said Consoc, the Columbus-based company that has been the administrator of the city’s Section 8 program since 1996, was notified in April that there were several deficiencies related to their operation of the program. While some progress was made initially, he said he believes some of the problems have not been addressed.
City Manager Judy Gilleland and Community Revitalization Director Doug Adkins are expected to give a report on those deficiencies at the housing authority meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in council chambers, One Donham Plaza.
Mulligan said residents have sent a “clear message to the city” to reform the Section 8 program, which includes how it is administered. City Manager Judy Gilleland estimated Consoc receives almost $1 million of the city’s more than $12 million program.
