What’s your State of the City?

Much has been made about Mayor Larry Mulligan’s 2010 State of the City address that took place Thursday evening, March 18. Mulligan outlined several goals for Middletown in the coming year, including public safety, continued caution as it relates to finances and improving the deteriorating city streets.

I think the mayor should have discussed trying to keep businesses in our city. There have been so many close within the past few years. There is no incentive to stay in town because of lack of caring from the council. I am thinking of moving our business out of Middletown after 24 years. Come on officials we need help keeping businesses in town not just out in the east end. I think this would be the answer to help Middletown a lot.

Yet every city council meeting you hear the members repeat the mantra, “we want to do what’s best for Middletown” and then they accept more money from the federal government to tear down buildings, build highways to no where build a healthcare clinic that will bring 16 full-time jobs to the city. All the while, increasing indebtedness and servitude to the federal government that will ultimately preclyde the Council from rendering any decisions that will benefit either citizens or businesses in Middletown.
