Officer, I missed the exit and was resting in my car

ENGLEWOOD Sept. 5 An officer patrolling in the parking lot of Walmart, 7725 Hoke Road, observed a man leaned back in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle. The engine was running.

The officer notified dispatch, who advised that the Ohio Highway Patrol had received calls about that vehicle from motorists who saw it on the interstate and believed the driver was impaired.

Officers approached the vehicle and had to knock several times on the window before the man woke up. He tried repeatedly to shift the vehicle out of park, and then rolled down the front passenger window.

He refused to unlock the door and again reached for the gear shift. An officer drew his Taser and had the subject exit the vehicle.

His speech was slurred and the odor of alcohol was about his person. The subject said he was at a friend’s house earlier and was headed to another friend’s house, but missed the exit. He also said he pulled into the parking lot to rest.

The subject submitted to sobriety tests and was arrested for having physical control of a vehicle.
