Hey, the sign says no semis can park here!

ENGLEWOOD May 31 Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of WalMart, 7725 Hoke Road, because the driver of a semi truck was reportedly becoming physical with a tow truck driver. Both drivers were standing by their respective trucks when officers arrived. The tow truck driver told the officer he was sent to WalMart to tow any semis parked in the lot. There are several signs posted in the lot stating that commercial truck parking is prohibited and violators will be towed. The tow driver said he started hooking up the semi to the tow truck when the semi driver came from the direction of the store yelling at him, saying he’d been inside the store shopping. The tow driver explained there were no exceptions, as posted on the signs. He said he’d release the truck if the dead run fee was paid, but the semi driver refused. The semi driver then started pulling some of the chains and tried to unhook it. The tow driver said he told him not to touch the towing equipment. He advised officers the semi driver chest-bumped and pushed him. The semi driver showed officers the receipt he had from WalMart, indicating he was inside shopping. He said that he thought since he was a customer he could park the semi in the lot. He also admitted to unhooking some of the tow chains. An officer explained that the tow driver was just doing his job and any issues should be directed to WalMart. The semi driver was issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

As the tow truck driver involved in this situation and a former over the road driver, I just want to comment that people should open there eyes and ask themselves why Wal-mart is making this desision. Look at all the rest areas that are being closed down for the same reasons that this particular store made this choice. Trash, property damage, urine, truck waste, and even prostatution. Wow! If people new this stuff was going on would they be so quick to judge about the store trying to keep these things away from there everyday customers in the community. It gets me when people don’t look at the whole picture, just the sugar coated part they choose to see…

As a driver I agree about the trash etc. these drivers leave around. And there”s often no excuse, many truck stops put dumpsters and cans all around lot any more. However, I happened to be at Walmart that day and driver was just shopping. Make a desinated area with a time limit . Parking for breaks is becoming a real issue and something needs to be done about the lack of parking for big trucks. This towman allows parking in his lot for a fee however space is very limited . Drivers need to be able to get proper rest and to be able to stock essentials in their trucks. Perhaps paid parking is the way to go with a lot attendant or cameras to document trash dumping etc and send tickets to company. Driver’s clean up after yourselves. space is very limited.

Most Wal Marts are very nice about allowing trucks to park there for a certain length of time to do shopping…I guess this Wal Mart has a real prick in charge of it.
