Happy Birthday, Man
VANDALIA April 1 An officer in the area of Poplar Hill Cemetery on Dixie Drive observed a pick-up truck pass with a male either standing in the bed or sitting on the bed rail. The male ducked when he saw the officer. There was no passenger in the vehicle, which was odd to the officer, who stopped the truck on Helke Road. The male in the truck bed complied when ordered to sit up. He didn’t respond when asked what he was doing. The officer asked again. The subject mumbled something but was very intoxicated. The driver had the odor of alcohol on his breath when the officer spoke to him as well. He told the officer it was his friend’s birthday and he wanted to ride in the back of the truck. The officer asked the driver how much he had to drink and the driver admitted to having a few beers. The driver submitted to field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating a vehicle intoxicated. His friend was issued a summons for disorderly conduct and released to the driver’s father.
