Hockey: Miami beats Western Michigan
The Miami hockey team scored a 3-1 victory over Western Michigan on Saturday night at Steve Cady Arena.
Junior Matt Tomassoni had a goal and an assist and senior Vincent LoVerde had two assists for the RedHawks (17-9-6, 14-7-5-2 CCHA).
Andy Miele, who leads the nation in scoring, scored a goal to extend his point-scoring streak to 11 games. Curtis McKenzie also scored. Trent Vogelhuber, Reilly Smith and Bryon Paulazzo had assists.
The win leaves Miami tied for second with Michigan in the CCHA standings, just one point behind Notre Dame. The Wolverines and Fighting Irish still have four league games to play, though, and Miami has just two remaining.
More importantly, Miami is now tied for 10th in the Pairwise Rankings, the system used to determine the NCAA Tournament field.
