Broncos get shootout point

The Miami and Western Michigan hockey teams played to a 3-3 tie tonight, Feb. 11 and after a scoreless overtime period the Broncos won the shootout for the extra point in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings.

Hockey: W. Michigan sends game to OT

Two goals boals by Western Michigan’s Ian Slater and Luke Witkowski in a span of 1:33 tied the score at 3-3, and the Broncos and Miami RedHawks are headed to overtime tonight, Feb. 11 at Steve Cady Arena.

Witkowski’s goal against Cody Reichard came with 7:26 left in regulation.

Hockey: Miami takes 3-1 lead over Western Michigan

The Miami RedHawks lead the Western Michigan Broncos 3-1 after two period of their Central Collegiate Hockey Association game tonight, Feb. 11 at Steve Cady Arena.

Curtis McKenzie and Trent Vogelhuber scored for the RedHawks in the second period. Pat Cannone assisted McKenzie’s goal, which came with 15:27 left in the period. Joe Hartman and Will Weber had assists on Vogelhuber’s goal, scored with 1:40 left in the period.

WMU, which has the nation’s longest unbeaten streak at 13 games, got a second-period goal from Dane Walters with 12:54 left.

Miami led 1-0 after one period on Justin Vaive’s goal.

The RedHawks hold a 23-19 advantage in shots on goal.

Hockey: Vaive goal puts Miami ahead

Senior Justin Vaive scored his seventh goal of the season with 2:15 remaining in the first period and the Miami RedHawks lead the Western Michigan Broncos 1-0 after one period tonight, Feb. 11 at Steve Cady Arena.

Vaive’s goal was assisted by Alden Hirschfeld and Andy Miele, the national leader in scoring (55 points) and assists (39).

Miami has an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal.
