Hockey: Competition still alive at Miami net
Although Miami’s Cody Reichard was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week, that doesn’t guarantee that he will be at the net in both games of the RedHawks’ weekend series against Western Michigan.
“We’re still challenging them (Reichard and fellow goalie Connor Knapp) throughout the week and they’re competing against each other,” Miami coach Enrico Blasi said.
The RedHawks are coming off a two-game sweep over Michigan.
“Everyone feels better when you’re winning,” Blasi said. “We’ve been playing well the last few weeks. We’ve lost only once (in the last eight games), a pretty good record against some pretty good teams (also including Notre Dame and Michigan State).
Blasi will face his former assistant, Jeff Blashill, Western Michigan’s head coach. The Broncos are on a 13-game unbeaten streak. They are just ahead of the RedHawks in the PairWise rankings and only six points behind them in the CCHA standings.
“They’re having a great season, they’re well coached, and they have some freshmen playing well up there,” Blasi said. “Their goaltending is solid and they’re right there.”
