Miami hockey up to No. 12 in national polls
A sweep of then-No. 8/9 Michigan was only enough to bump Miami up one spot in both national rankings from 13th to 12th, as both the USCHO.com Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll were released Monday.
The RedHawks (16-9-5, 13-7-4-2 CCHA), who now sit atop the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings, totaled 479 points in the USCHO Poll, up 52 points from a week ago, but are still 42 points behind No. 11 Merrimack. Miami picked up 152 points in the USA Today poll, 57 more than last week, and sit 33 points back of Merrimack, who’s also 11th in the USA Today Poll.
For the third straight week, the RedHawks will face a top-15 team, as No. 15/15 Western Michigan comes to Oxford for a two-game set Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game starts at 7:35 p.m. while Saturday is set for 7:05 p.m. at Steve Cady Arena. The two sides split in Kalamazoo back in November.
