Miami’s opener at Florida to be shown on ESPN
Miami University’s football opener at Florida will be televised by ESPN on Sept. 4, the RedHawks announced today, June 3.
The Miami-Florida contest starts at noon and leads off ESPN’s first triple-header of 2010. Following the RedHawk-Gator game, Texas plays at Rice at 3:30 p.m. and Oregon State faces TCU at 7:45 p.m.
Miami coach Michael Haywood and the RedHawks will play at Florida’s famed “Swamp,” officially known as Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Several facelifts have taken place after the stadium’s original construction in 1930 and the stadium now is the largest in Florida. The Gators’ average attendance last season of 90,544 ranked ninth in the country.
Miami has won its only game against Florida, a 16-7 victory in Gainesville, Fla. in the 1973 Tangerine Bowl. That win capped a perfect 11-0 season for coach Bill Mallory’s team.
