Miami’s Haywood not twisted in knots by approaching debut
By Pete Conrad
Miami University’s Mike Haywood said he is not thinking about the RedHawks’ upcoming game against Kentucky in terms of the contest marking his debut as a collegiate head coach.
“Someone asked me that yesterday. I said no, I hadn’t thought about it,” Haywood said today, Aug. 31 at the first of his weekly press conferences at Yager Stadium.
“When I take a day off from football, I spend it with Michael Christopher,” he said, referring to his son, who is about 6 months old. “He doesn’t care that his dad is coaching football. He cares that his dad is feeding him, playing with him, making him laugh.
“It probably won’t hit me until kickoff,” Haywood added, “(or) when there is a crucial decision to be made I’ll be subbing in special teams, focusing on offense and defense, making suggestions here and there.”
