Green now No. 1 at running back for Miami
By Pete Conrad
Miami University football coach Mike Haywood said earlier this evening, Aug. 17 following practice that red-shirt freshman Danny Green, from Oak Park, Ill., has moved onto the first string at running back.
“We’re really fighting it out for No. 1 and No. 2,” Haywood said. “After the scrimmage (Saturday, Aug. 15) Green got moved to one and (Thomas) Merriweather got moved to two. (J.R.) Taylor is playing three right now and he’s playing better.”
Miami’s running game was stopped cold in the scrimmage. Green’s 6-yard gain was the longest of the day on the ground.
Sophomore Quincy Landingham, the transfer from Wisconsin, has been unable to practice either in the spring or summer sessions due to injury, and senior Andre Bratton also is out.
“It’s not looking like (Landingham) will be healthy enough to compete for the next couple weeks,” Haywood said.
“Bratton’s still out and has been out 6-7 days,” he added. “He’s been working hard in the training room but still has a way to go.”
